Aguilar TH 700

The preamp is the difference, right? I think I’d go AG and buy a Tonehammer DI. Throw the Tonehammer and the AG’s preamp in an AB loop pedal and have channel switching. Actually I’m really liking this idea.

Would the difference there be AG for "clean and clear" and TH for "warm and fuzzy"? I don't know much about the AG head/sound.
I know the pre on the TH heads is a bit different with the drive knob and all, but I do already have the TH DI pedal so I'm already in the neighborhood. But still, seems like a tough choice. I have wanted to replace my Markbass LMII for a long time with something from Aguilar but I don't play through an amp often enough to be ready to shell out the dough for it.
What are the expected sonic differences between the AG700 and the TH700?
It would be a slight departure from the "signature" Tone Hammer preamp but I would have appreciated a second sweepable mid control. As it is, I can throw my TH preamp into the back of a Mesa D800 if I need a higher powered TH.
My guess would be that it's the same difference as between AG700 and TH500... My assumption is that the TH700 is just the TH preamp with AG700 power stage...
I would also guess that same thing. The TH350 and TH500 were exactly the same, and no doubt the 700 is as well.
I've not played the AG700 but my understanding (from what i've read) is that the AG is a little brighter, a little more clean, and a little more flexible as far as different tones.
I wonder if they’re gonna come out with some new SL cabinets that can handle the extra power of the TH700? Right now, the SL410x is the only SL cab rated high enough at 500W (8ohm version) - even the 500/4ohm version of the SL410x wouldn’t be “safe” for the TH700. A 350-400W/8ohm SL115 or SL210 would be pretty sweet!

It seems to me that the difference is either 200 (350/500) or 150 (500/700)...

Same dimensions as the AG700 I think. I guess that may shoot down my idea in post #18 of Aguilar possibly offering a custom upgrade of your current 500 to the 700 power section.

That is one way to do it, but I would think most people who want a super light "mini stack", don't really want to lug a 212 and an extra 112... I know I wouldn't, mainly because you can't really carry all of that easily without making 2 trips. I'd still rather have my current setup - 2 SL112s (1 in each hand) and a TH500 in a carry bag.
But... If Aguilar put out an SL115 and an SL210 that could handle the TH700, I'd be tempted with that setup over my 2 12s.
I doubt it. That extra power isn't just about driving a cab to reach a number. It's about the things you can do with the extra headroom in terms of feel of the amp, staying clean with a little more volume, pushing more bass without clipping the amp.
When I was getting my start, and you still had to go to the guitar shop to talk gear, I was taught that you always want your amp to have more power than the cab can handle. Not sure that that's really true, but if you use your ears, a 700w amp with a 500w cab is no problem, and probably a pretty good match.
There were a few times I thought the TH500 could use a little more juice, especially if you like the cleaner tones, but need to be loud. When you really push it really hard, it could tend to thin out a little and get a little clanky. That extra 200w probably wont make much difference in volume, but it might make a difference in keeping the tone fat.

I play ampless, aside from a gig where...even 50 watts is overkill. But a part of me still kinda wants one. I'm sure a pedal will come along and divert my ....oh, look ....
