Aguilar TH500 Amp Case P*rn

Recently got the TH, love it, wrote about it in a previous post. But when I went to lug this thing around I realized I wanted to have some serious protection for it. I saw that there was a bag made by Aguilar, but I really didn't want to drop 60 bucks on just a bag.

Then I came across the SKB 3i series of cases. I realized that for 20 to 25 bucks more then the bag I could get A watertight, bomb proof, ATA carry case. I ended up going one size bigger than I actually needed so I could fit some cords or other accessories if I want.

I just got it today and custom fit the foam so far I'm very impressed. And it's really lightweight and worth the slightly extra bulkiness vs a bag. I don't anticipate flying with this thing very often but now I have no worries about it getting banged around in the back of a car, at rehearsal or going into a gig.

Nice, but I would have went Pelican:

Invalid Link Removed

I looked at the Pelican line, they seemed comparable. I've had very good luck with SKB products over the 20 years and that's ultimately why I went with them..The model you linked would be too small, but the Pelican 1500 would've fit and is priced similarly.

What makes you prefer the Pelican brand?

I have mine in a Mono Producer bag. I don't really see a point to putting such a small light weight amp in such a chunky case if you're not flying with one (and I even own a couple of Pedlican cases for camera equipment). The Producer, while not cheap, fits plenty in it, is padded and very rugged, can be slung over a shoulder so you still have two hands free for other gear, and in 4 years of using the TH500, it's looked after the amp perfectly.

I don't disagree with you, for the most part a carry bag may work just fine for many people . The mono products looking very nice , although the producer bag costs 70% more then the case that I bought .

The thing I don't like about any bag is that it has to be babied a little bit I need to make sure that it's over the shoulder or on top of the pile of gear and not stuck under a speaker cabinet . Most of my gigs I use a hand truck for platform cart to hold everything in. If the majority of my gear is in hard cases I don't have to be concerned about where it fits in the pile and then I can strap everything down without being worried about anything getting squished in a bag.

Plus I'm doubling with the upright bass some of the time so I may have that bass on my back with everything else on the hand truck. The hard case was just a better solution for my situation.

This is what I got for my TH500, this is sold as a camera / accessory case. It came filled with foam easily cut to desired shape. As a bonus the foam in the lid doubles as cushion to protect the head from vibration. It's not glued to the lid, held by pressure inside the lid, when setting up I just slip it between head and cabinet. Nothing extra to carry, quite easy.

Do you recall the case size you went with?
