Aguilar Tone Hammer 350

just gigged my th350 for the first time on a large church stage as a monitor with a 1x12 cab and it's officially the best sounding amp I've tried :). I wedged the Aguilar bag underneath the cab to tilt it back and it worked great.

question: I turned up my gain to 12 o'clock and drive and master volume to 1 o'clock, is this pushing the amp too much? btw, my 1x12 is a 250 watt eminence deltalite neo, no farting at all, but the clip light was faintly coming on.

No, you are not pushing the amp hard at all. In fact, gain, drive, and master at noon seems to be the sweet spot for the TH amps. There is some chatter about the clip light. From what I have read....it seems the clip light does not function like a conventional clip light like we are all use to seeing. Perhaps someone will chime in and explain what the light is truly doing. The clip light function has been discussed in the TH500 thread. A quick search/read should shed more light on that topic for you. I pay little attention to the clip light. As long as the light is not constantly lit, I disregard.

I do remember Dave? from Aguilar saying something on tb like the clip light can be on all of the time and its fine; but there's got to be a point where the amp is pushed too hard, isn't there? and how would we be able to know that?

+1 to the above... you will likely hear some compression in the low end at the initial note attack. While there is nothing wrong with the clip light coming on, if you are in a situation where it is regularly on most of the night, you need more amp and/or drivers. In that way, it is a bit similar to the Genz clip light, which indicates the onset of their power management system. Nothing wrong with it coming on every once in a while, and even coming on quite a bit on your very loudest gigs toward the end of the night on occasion. However, it is an indication that you are pushing the amp toward its limits, and is IMO an indication that you might need a bigger, more powerful rig if it is on constantly.

I played a blues gig last night on a relatively large stage with my TH350 and I had the gain at 11:00, master at about 10:00(using 2 1x12" cabs). It was plenty loud, and had a fantastic tone! I couldn't imagine setting it a whole lot louder.

A page or two back on this thread I had a decision to make between the Aguilar SL112 or the DB112 to pair up with the Tone Hammer 350 head...I ended up going with ONE DB112 and ONE DB112NT in white hot...they are a lil' heavy but I decided to go with these cabs because I have heard them before and loved them...the SL112's were a bit more money but the idea of having 25lb speakers were appealing but I haven't found much aural pleasure in other neodymium cabs so I decided to go with the DB series...I play in town the next two weekends and didn't take them out last weekend's road trip because I am waiting on the Aggie covers to arrive and white tolex can get ugly in a hurry...but the basement testing with the DB112/DB112NT and the Tonehammer 350 made me feel pretty certain I made the right choice...and it looks stellar!!!

you're gona lean your bass' against those nice, white cabs..might wanna get one of these. I thought it was silly and I would not use it much. But for home/rehearsal space use, I'm using heck out of it on either of my combos or regular rig. I'll prolly still take my regular Hercules stand to gigs for max support. But for about 7 bucks on Ebay, this little piece of rubber works quite well for what its' designed for. It stays in place on Tolex/carpet and holds my 5ers snug. A simple but effective design.

Maybe just a dish towel, etc may serve the same purpose but this little holder works really well for me. I lay my keys/picks in the little tray part. I carry it in the small pocket of my bass' gigbag. Just a suggest. Nice looking rig those white Aggie cabs.

First gig went off without a hitch. Me with the TH350 into a Aggie DB285JC- no PA support in a small room (only vocals into the PA)+ 3 guitars, drums, keys. Carried the room easily. Love the way the sound sits right in tight with the bass drum. Bass was Epiphone Jack Casady. The next bands bassist used the rig too and used a Japanese '51 RI P bass and it sounded great with no changes to the eq.

Cool!

Thinking about using my TH350 into the SL112 over at Family Wash Saturday... Not sure if it will be enough cab for that room though. I know the amp is plenty, but dang it, I probably should've gotte 2 SL112's!!!

Hey- With the little bit of time I spent messing with that cab over at Corner Music- I think you will be fine using one in the Wash. That is a pretty awesome cabinet. I can't believe how light it is. If my kid doesn't wear me out on Sat. I'll stop down and say hello.

Well, after all the reading and being on backorder at GC for 3 weeks I finally found a TH350 in the TB classifieds for a decent price. I've tried many micro amps and sold them all after trying to find a decent tone. I swore to myself I'd just stick to my all tube amps and resovle myself of the trying to like these "micros" heads. Just recently picked up a Bassman 100T (which is wonderful BTW) and still felt compelled to try one of the Aguilar heads. I think the the video of the their shop I found on Musicradar finally sold me.

Anyway the amp came last week and I just got around to trying it out today. All I can say is WOW.

The TH350 is definitely in it own category and packs plenty of HPs for what i need. If I need to fill a room I have a SVT Heritage and the Bassman 100T to do that, but for around the town casual giging and home this is dynamite. Great little amp so far. Still trying to hone in a tone with the gain and drive, but I know I'll get there eventually.

All I have left at home is a GB Uber 212T to use at the moment but for some reason I don't think it's the right fit. May have to try one of the Aguilar SL's when get some time. It's been a log journey, but I have to say I'm quite impressed with this little amp. Cheers.

Give it time. I thought my BDDI needed a long learning curve, but my TH500 took far longer. Weeks for me.

More than any other amp I can recall, I got far more payback in figuring out where & how much to MID CUT than I did in knowing how much to bass boost. The right dose and location of mid cut can get rid of a lot of these amps' signature glassiness/brittleness. Of course, depends on the cab and on the music style, too.
