How is this Tone Hammer compared to the Sadowsky bass preamp? They are about the same price.

The Aguilar has more controls, the Sadowsky has only bass and treble cut/boost. But which one is better? I heard many good things about the Sadowsky.

I have an Aguilar AG500CS amp myself. And I am looking for something to make my slapsound better and something to make transition between a fingerstyle sound and a slapsound more smooth so that it doesn't get lost in the live mix. I like the Marcus Miller slapsound.
I also I will be using it for recordings.

So which one do you prefer the Sadowsky or the Tonehammer?

The Sadowsky pre only has bass/treble boost. No cut. But, the voicing is in that sweet spot for sure.

I did not read all the threads, But i would want to know also.
What about an active bass. Does it work better whan the bass isn't active. Or it doesn't matter.

Yes it's a preamp in its own box , yes it allows you to "fiddle with EQ" (as the 'treble', 'mid', and 'bass' boost/cut controls mentioned in like the second post would indicate), and yes it can work with both active and passive basses. I suppose it would have the most dramatic impact on a passive bass, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't "work" with an active one.

Thanks! Didn't mean to get you all p'd off. I've been following the thread and read the description at bestbassgear and was just looking for a little confirmation before I started GASing hard core for this.

It just seamed too good to be true....

I pre-ordered mine today. I contacted Dave to see if it will take phantom power through the DI. That was my biggest concern. I figured it would, but that will eliminate the need for the 9v or the power supply for me. I hate power cables running across the stage. I cannot wait till this beast comes in!!!! Those guys at Aguilar do it so amazingly well!!!!
