Aguilar Tone Hammer

Greetings...we are all awaiting the arrival of the Aguilar Tone Hammer..but just got word from Aguilar that these will most likely be out in late July. We are sad about the delay, but wanted to keep you in the loop.

So a question for the lucky guys who got to play with the Tone Hammer already - I was planning on dropping an OBP-3 into my Jazz in the near future, but should I instead wait and just get a Tone Hammer instead - save soldering, battery compartments, etc?

Yes the TH saves me having to mod the bass, but the ODP-3 would mean it was all 'self contained' in the bass ?

One of my basses has an OBP-1 in it. I didn't have it with me
when I played through the Hammer and the Sansamp Para DI.
I used a Fender am dlx j v.
The bassic sound of the Hammer was very similar to the
OBP-1. As I used it more, the sound seemed just a bit more
muscular, with a little more focus in the lows, but still very
similar. I really liked it about as much as the Para DI, just a
slightly different flavor.

Well papa, if you get the OBP3, you won't have a DI and you can't drive a poweramp. You won't have sweepable mids (only 400Hz or 800 Hz) and you won't have the AGS option.

I'm thinking about the tone hammer... using it as a DI, for recording and as a preamp with my hexa as a poweramp.

What would happen if I used the Hammer as a pre into a Pro Radial DI? Is that entirely pointless or would reduce anything for recording?

I used to run my Lakland 55-01 straight into my Carvin DCM1000 with no problems at all. I think if he installs active electronics he'll be fine. Of course it won't sound like the Tone Hammer, but it should be close.

I just picked up a used DB924 in the meantime to satisfy my equipment jones...I'll be putting in an order on a Tone Hammer soon.

I think there are telling different dates each time. It should have been there at least three months ago. A big shop in Germany said to me it would arrive there end of May.
And I think it will come out in the USA first.

I too can't wait to get one. I was counting on this to be my swiss army knife for a Europe tour I have this summer. His little brother DB924 should do the job fine.

I'm sure the Hammer is going to be one of those products that we say "I can't believe how I lived without it for so long".

If you need something like the Tone Hammer to get through a
tour, you might try the Sansamp ParaDI. I a/b'd these two
preamps. These were similar enough that I'd be happy with
either one. The Hammer was a touch dryer sounding than
the para di. Not quite as saturated sounding. But still very
similar and equally useful. I think you'll really like the Hammer
when it comes out.

Thanks for the helpful description of your A/B experience with the Para DI and Tone hammer. I'm looking for a preamp to add to my Acoustic Image Focus 2R, primarily to tweak my acoustic bass tone and control feedback at louder volumes. Any sense which of these preamps might work better for that application?
