Prompt: Angry Talkbasser trolling the AI club :roflmao::roflmao::roflmao:

sure. if you're making the point that our good friend @Rib 13 made, above, then i'd direct you to those relevant posts.

if you're making a different point: what's your point? :D

My point is that I don't see an a priori absolute distinction, from the creator's point of view, between using AI or an agency. If there are differences in the quality of the output, that's a valid distinction. People didn't label Pink Floyd as agency users.

From a sociological point of view, though, there's a huge difference between using AI or an agency

My self-described image created with NightCafe. Pretty amazing
ha! very cool pic! is that a version of you? share your prompt, please...

per the AI generators: what is it with the AI generated hands? they generally seem mangled, with extra or deformed digits --- i'm not complaining i think it's funny (part of the fun!) --- anyone's guess?

me either. agreed.

can you elaborate? thanks.

Yes haha it seems like it still can’t deal with limbs, fingers, stringed instruments and other stuff. Also, for the love of all that is holy, don’t add the phrase “eating spaghetti” to your prompts. :)

It’s interesting, as I read the comments I’m reminded that these are just tools, powerful tools that you can choose to leverage or ignore. Individuals can choose to either dismiss the use of another powerful tool or embrace the capabilities and learn to benefit from them.

For example, statements like…
  • I don’t like to see iPads being used” which is just silly… since they can run setlists, change MIDI settings automatically on pedals and amps and are a very useful tool.
  • I don’t like CNCs, when in fact a pin router is doing the same thing, it just takes more effort… in the end all the components are assembled and finished by humans, it just provides consistency and accelerates the work process
AI is no different and can accelerate many tasks (not always intended to replace people or jobs) but enhance work that individuals are doing for faster OR many times better results. Image manipulation, accelerated learning, code dev and code generation. I have chosen to embrace many of these tools and use them daily for better results, in some use cases others know they’re being used, but in many other scenarios no one ever knows the difference… as the outcomes are the same or better.

can you elaborate? thanks.

Having to use an agency means interacting with humans and all the dimensions that brings. It also has the potential to change employment prospects.

There are also questions about modern AI and training. If training is based on what is available, by and large, what is on the internet which may also include AI outputs, will we lose something? Or is there sufficient human selection ongoing to prevent that. Or given that blues rock and naieve art, etc have been around for fifty years have we already pretty much given up on new genres anyway?

He looks younger than I do and has better form haha! The prompt was "A white male dressed in a black T-shirt and jeans while wearing a black ball cap and playing a white four string bass guitar in front of an Ampeg SVT and 810 amplifier stack"

I'll put my head above the parapet and say "is this AI or ML, and how do you tell". When I worked in this area the AI people would have put me in stocks and thrown rotten tomatoes at me if I'd claimed I was doing anything other than ML. And I would've agreed with them. I see techniques I used 25 years ago being hailed as new old ways to deal with issues such as symbolic processing. To me it's ML, but maybe I'm wrong. ML can still be very powerful, though

i get it --- i've put in so many hours for my band's videos for which i've just used free stock video footage. you're actually creating! pretty cool to see those.

ha! i know they're grateful and beholding, right? ;) anyway, from watching: i know that the task was enormous. kudos!

i'll have to check out davinci resolve. if you're using the 'studio version' you probably have everything you need. i've gotten used to VSDC pro ('cause it's cheap) and i know little-to-nothing about other video editors.

for those interested, the VSDC free version:
Download Free Video Editor
the VSDC pro version (~$20/year):
Free Video Editor VSDC: Advanced Tools for Professional-Level Video Editing

Being rather advanced with a DAW, I thought, ‘I can learn video editing, how hard can it be?’ But it has been a pretty steep learning curve for me, again, one I’m still on.

I demod a bunch and went with Davinci Resolve mostly because I found the free version actually did all the stuff I thought I needed initially. Indeed, you could do quite a lot with it. There wasn’t even one particular feature I needed that caused me to upgrade to Studio. Partly, I just appreciate the business model of giving something largely useable, like a long term demo, so I bought it at one point.

The other thing I liked about Resolve, was that the more advanced effects (Fusion) are modular and routed in a way that reminded me of a DAW’s effects processing and bussing. It was more intuitive to me versus more layering approaches of some of the others. Those layering ones, I imagine might be more intuitive to people with a stronger background in image editing.

If you hand off creating your album cover to an agency do you stop becoming a creator and instead become an agency user?

Back in the 50s and 60s, the USAF thought that close air-to-air dogfighting was a thing of the past. They specifically developed the earliest F-4 Phantom to be a high tech missile carrying air superiority fighter with no internal cannon(s). It would use missiles to destroy targets miles away without actually making visual contact. Boy were they wrong !.......Im hoping AI has a similar impact on society. For example: My oldest kid does not care for newer music and I had no influence in her tastes. She believes that a lot of modern corporate label producer music has no real substance, the messages are trite, that a lot of computer WAV/AIFF stem manipulation music creation tools have lowered standards, and the songs themselves are disposable...She much prefers music from the 1970s to late 00s as her favorite eras because of how the songs themselves were crafted - by humans on analog intruments for humans with analog hearts. A lot of her friends are like this as well. It gives me hope that there will be a distinction between humans using tools to make art and the tool making art with only minimal prompting....

of course, in my case, I like to think I make art and I have been called a Tool before, so theres that........

@Barticus, i'm with you, i agree. :thumbsup: = tools!

thanks, sgiacomo! just reading your prompt helps me understand a bit more. now, what settings did you use: default settings, or did you tweak? TIA

I'll put my head above the parapet and say "is this AI or ML, and how do you tell"
i think you're deeper into the "issues" than i am...and for good reason, given your experience.

@asdfgh, of all my philosophical queries, leanings, and hills-to-die-on, i'm afraid that i can only apologize for my uncluttered, lightweight position on the subject of AI, in general, but especially and specifically as it relates to this club/thread --- i just wanna see what others are doing (can do) with AI images, and i want to see how it's applied to some TB member-generated music --- the good stuff!

thanks, scott! believe it or not i actually have some background in image editing/manipulation (a year of art school as a yute, "resident artist" for all of my bands, forever). so this AI stuff just makes my use of the VSDC platform a lot easier/quicker. i don't know if i'll ever need anything more, given the lightweight demands of my goals/usage, but i have the resolve site bookmarked for further reading/study just in case. i think that platform (or one like it) would be indispensable for "heavy users" like yourself.

wow, that's impressive! most (but not all!) of the yutes i know are into contemporary pop stuff. of the musician yutes i know and love: they're mostly guided by the 'organic'/analog, so i share your hope! ;)

...of course, in my case, I like to think I make art and I have been called a Tool before, so theres that........
i recently defended myself as an "artist" in another thread (i create/write music!), but being called "a tool" never came up...so i should just leave that alone.... :roflmao:

trying to get some pics to use as image prompts at Runway , so i'm on Invalid Link Removed to get some pics...

i need to build a horn section (alto and tenor saxes, and a trumpet). thought i'd play with some saxes first. i typed in my prompt and then chose the "advanced art editor" which added the text in red, but i changed the shot and deleted a couple of the ideas just for he[[ of it to see what i'd get. edit: all of these were "thumbs," free.

the prompt at 90% prompt weight:
"handsome young man wearing a huge red sombrero and a black tuxedo while playing a tenor saxophone in the desert, Hyperrealistic, splash art, concept art, 3/4 shot, intricately detailed, color depth, dramatic, side light, colorful background"

the prompt after a sombrero color was added, at 90% prompt weight:
"handsome young man wearing a huge red sombrero and a black tuxedo while playing a tenor saxophone in the desert, Hyperrealistic, splash art, concept art, 3/4 shot, intricately detailed, color depth, dramatic, side light, colorful background"

"handsome young man wearing a huge red sombrero and a black tuxedo while playing a tenor saxophone in the desert, Hyperrealistic, splash art, concept art, 3/4 shot, intricately detailed, color depth, dramatic, side light, colorful background"

anyway, i have to prompt a trumpet player, and then prompt all three together to make a section. it's a good thing these images haven't cost any credits...this could go on for days. :D

It has many purposes, be it personal, religious devotion, shows of oppulence and power or tools of politics. Or just things people like to look at. I'd say that many people derive enjoyment from it for sure. For some, finishing off the boring bits of a grandmaster or sawing another shark in half it may have just been a job.
In order to make your point, you conveniently cut out the part of my comment where I said art can also be a product. Quite deceiving editing. You would make a great journalist.

Pink Floyd weren't called agency users because that would be silly.
No one who uses an agency calls themselves a creator or artist and they don't take credit for the art. The artist is credited separately. Not so with AI prompters, who present the images as their creations and take credit for them and, like in this thread, call themselves creators.
