Double Bass AI Focus 1 Series III

A friend of mine has an AI Focus 1 Series III for sale. I will hopefully check it out tomorrow, but I've been trying to find some pricing on them and I'm having a hard time. Any idea what one in good condition is worth?

I'm hoping to move to a mic setup and I'd like something with a decent mic preamp. I've had great pizz results with a ShuttleMax 9.2 and Fishman Full Circle, but I'm starting to use the bow live in several folk/Americana/acoustic bands. I much prefer the sound of arco from a mic to that of a pickup. The Focus seems perfect, but only if I can get it for a fair price.

Yes. I always do a search before asking. I found about 2 or 3 going back 2 years or so - nothing recent. I'll try to do a more thorough search. If anyone has sold one recently, I'd appreciate a ball park figure.

A couple of different series 3s heads have sold in the last year somewhere in the $650 to $750 range. Whatever you pay, you're getting a great amp with a bonus of the hands down best customer service in the business.

Thanks! I think those are mostly the Focus 2, from what I found in my searches.

So this was being sold by my luthier. As I was taking my bass to him today, anyway, he called and said he had to sell it today and would rather me take it than Music-Go-Round. So we agreed on a price of $450 - which is more than Music-Go-Round would give him and in line with the previous Focus 1 sales on TB. Just brought it home, but my bass is with him, so...

I'll be selling off some EB gear now. And I'm really curious about the Troll ribbon mic. That might be my next purchase. Thanks for the help!

That sounds like a good price. I paid ~$750 for my second-hand Focus 2 Series III, and considering you get service for life, how can you go wrong? Enjoy!

I think $450 is a good deal for that head. That's what I sold my Focus 1, series III for a year ago - which you probably already found in the archives.

Thanks, guys. I'm happy with it and the price I paid. I can't wait to get my bass back from my luthier so I can try it out with some of my mics. My electric 6 sounds really nice so far.
