Alembic Club at Talk Bass

:D

I Must I'm quite blown by the sound of this baby, it mwhas by default and I like the Bass/treble setup very much.
Before I decide to do the EMW mod, I'll try her with a vol, pan, filter + Q set.
If I like that I might do a full blown dual filter conversion with the bass/treble controls (sort of "Signature EMW", or "EMW+")
I must hunt down another filter unit for that and it would require a complete overhaul of the controls cavity (excessive routing) So it can take some time (more than a year) for me to proceed with this.

Cleaned her up yesterday and found some burls hiding under the bridge:

Would you happen to know an extremely nice fretless Series, made in the same year I was made? (I was born in '76) :D

Series is definitely on the radar for the next one, but it's going to be done right at once when I go there. That would include a full "stereo" setup with Alembic preamps, high end effect processor and probably a Mesa 50/50 + Mesa 1x12 cabs. (= costly endeavour)

I can highly recommend the Orion in your search for a five string fretless.
It does the "mwah" a bit better than her 4 string neck through sister and the pan/bass/treble setup is quite effective for dialling in an extreme versatile palette of tones.

Cons: If you ever go there, the 24th position on the G-string is hard to reach and after all these years with filter equipped Alembics I do miss that control a bit. (that will be remedied as soon as I get the EMW cable from Alembic, which I put on hold because I might go for a two filter setup with the bass/treble controls)

If you're interested in a trade, shoot me a PM. I know another one for sale, lined fretless with Coco Bolo top and high gloss finish.

That's a fine looking set FC.

I don't like picking favorites out of a crowd like that, but the tasteful simplicity of new fretless Orion really appeals to me.

Thanx!

Sorry mate. I only know of a 75 fretless
That is the year I was made :-)

Yours is stunning, beautiful bodycore (love the "swirls" and figure on the lower body side) and unique "Fleetwood Mac worthy" bridge.

Trade value would be at lest two or three Orions like mine I guess, or maybe 1:1 for a custom build? Have you contacted the US Alembic dealers?

Unicorn indeed, except this one actually exists.
There are only 8 34" scale small standard body basses ever built by Alembic. 6 fretted and 2 fretless.
It had a lot to do with the neck dive I believe. Alembic did not wish put any more out there in the market place
than the 8 that were built. For me it is not a problem at all as I wear the bass a little higher and
use a strap that is "grippy" on my shoulder.
This is a good deal for someone wanting to get into series electronics also.
I have recently picked up an Essence 5 and I have fallen in love with the 5 string thing. It has raised the level
of my playing and I really want to get 5 string fretless.
Maybe I should just hang on to the bass and look for a fretless 5 Alembic used.
Might be a custom build?

It's funny how fretless Alembics appear in spells... we'll go 6 months without sighting one, then there'll be a half-dozen at once.

If/when I do a custom build, it's going to be a fretless 5-string. Shame on me if I spot a fretless Spoiler 5 before then. :hiding:

I use regular long-scale TI Jazz Flats on my 32" scale Persuader.

Remember, Alembics have the tailpiece set back from the bridge a couple inches.

I had DR Hi-Beams on it once.

I'd post your query on the Alembic Club forum ChefKen... this thread is not as heavily traveled as theirs. I'm pretty sure there's a couple "strings" threads on there now, but always room for another. Or a quick call to the Mothership will get you advice faster. Ask for Mica.
