Alembic Club at Talk Bass

Ah feel yo' pain......
I had to have a gig bag custom made for my 5-string. Put the guy who made it in touch with Alembic and he started making bags for them. Pricey.
I store mine in a case. I take them to gigs in gig bags. My 4-string fits in any standard sized gig bag, but the 5-string has that point on the end plus a seriously huge headstock that required the custom bag.
A heavily padded bag plus an appropriate amount of TLC works great for me. YMMV.
I have a Rockbag for two basses, my Elan 5 ($12K bass in a gigbag 
) just fits in - I have to pull the top over the headstock.
No experience with the standard bodyshape here, but I guess the Elan in line headstock makes it about as tall as that shape with a Crown 4 headstock.

I have a 6 string Essence and a fretless Persuader, that is under $2000, up for sale..same thing.
I was able to fit my 32" MK Standard (with the point) comfortably into an iGig bag. It was the only premium bag I found that worked.

They give you the interior dimensions. If yours is 34" scale measure the bass and compare.

Just picked this up today. I'm pretty sure its a 1996 Mark King, though I haven't looked it up since I'm too busy playing it. It sounds like a dream come true

The serial number is on the brass plate at the end of the fretboard. If it is a 1996 Mark King Deluxe (looks like that to me) the serial number will start with "96 MK#####"
If it starts with "96 MJ#####" it would be a '96 Mark King Standard.
Thanks guys it most certainly is a '96 MK. I wish I could find information on the woods. Once you get used to the body, this thing plays like magic, and the EQ is really something else. Never thought I could get such tone out of this thing. I'm really blown away.

This bass was bought new by a dealer about to open a music store and this was his first piece of merchandise. The store was never opened and the fellow held on to the bass and it lived in its case never played, never set up. The owner was a pro audio guy, not a player. At least, it was kept in a good environment.
I met this fellow in 1990 and we've been friends ever since. I am the only guy that's ever took the bass out of the case, set it up, and even played a couple of gigs on it over the years. I quit playing not long after I met the fellow, but I never forgot about the bass.
Fast forward to this post July when I decided to pursue my playing career again. This bass was the first bass I thought of and I made plans to buy it. But then I realized that the music I intended to play really needed a 5-string instrument and I went through a few basses, finally settling on an awesome 1998 Music Man Stingray 5-string with the ceramic pup. However, lately, I started thinking about this Series One again. It stays on my mind, so I finally decided to buy it anyway. After 35 years, this bass really needs to sit in daylight and be owned and played by a player. So I stepped up and bought it. It sings, it roars, it snarls, whatever I want it to do, it does. It's awesome. I may not gig with it much because of missing a string (haha, that's a joke, ya'll), but it will stay on a bass stand in my practice room and played on nearly every day. I think it's long overdue.
