Alembic Club at Talk Bass

I finally gave my Orion a full volume workout with the band last night. I've read people say the MXY pickups lack low end, that they're too clean for heavy rock, I say balderdash! I've been playing this for a good while at home and I really like it but it really shone cranked up in a room playing heavy rock. A good friend of mine named it El Presidente, justly deserved.

Hey guys, I'm about to pull trigger on 91 essence....looks beautiful and just wanted to know what is fair price? It's 8/10 and only finish problem is small little nicks from bass players ring that indented into wood.....that's it....Seller wants $1845 shipped from Oregon to PA

Fair?

P.S. That weird shadow on one pic is his window refection not finish problem I'm talking about, but it is in that area of bass.

I totally mis-typed that year. It is indeed a 1978 model. And I knew that all along, I just had a brain fart when I typed it in.

Speaking of the 'crown' headstock, I'm curious... does anyone here know if this was the inspiration for it's design? The resemblance is striking.

That's a fair price for an all original 91 in excellent condition. Play it proudly!

Hi all, I hope to own an Alembic soon. I was wondering if anyone knows whether or not scalloped frets are a regular occurrence on alembics. There's an '83 Distillate being sold locally here and I was wondering how common it is because I saw someone in Paris online had sold a distillate last year that also had the same scalloped frets (above the 7th fret). Is this probably the same bass, they look identical as well of course.

Any help is appreciated.

I know the ad you're referring to. I've never seen another one like that, though I do recall a scalloping craze in the late 80's (post Yngwie's arrival ;) ) which, to me at least, seems more likely for something like that to happen. Could very well be wrong though. It does seem a bit pricey for one which has had the headstock broken off. If you have pics of the French one you should be able to compare the wood grain. No two are alike.
