Simply for fun

The CLIP posted is of two Alembic Series I basses. One is a 97' and one is a 77'.

Can you tell them apart by listening? Which is the first and second? Which do you like?

One is Shedua over Cherry and the other is Walnut over Mahogany. Neck woods are the same.

I'm guessing the second one is Walnut over Mahogany, that's the '97 right? I have one that has the year numbers reversed ('79) :) and that one sounds closest...
Both are sounding great, slight preference here for the second -better setup/or raised action- cleaner sound. Though if a song needs more excitement, the first one could be the better choice :)

I'm too lazy to go through the Talkbass rules, but aren't pics mandatory in threads like these? :D

I haven’t listened to the clips yet, but just based on what I know about Alembics I would think the walnut-over-mahogany is the ‘77 ...because I’ve never seen a Series I from the late 70s that didn’t have a mahogany core.

Here's a better demo of the two Series I. Same strings and settings w/ reverb. Only difference is 77 is in mono (since I don't have a box at the moment) and 97 in stereo with reverb on the bridge p/u.
