Alembic style basses look ugly to me...

troll-web.jpg

Alembics are definately a different animal. The make a wide variety of styles, so to say they all look bad is a stretch. That would be like saying all Fenders look good. I've never heard anyone in the guitar community claim a Fender Coronado looked good, however most of their designs are considered standards by players of both big and small strings.

I don't know about many of you other people, but I find Alembic and Fodera basses and other basses of the sort kinda ugly. Just my taste I guess. Not a huge fan of basses with exotic woods.

Nah, it's not a matter of taste, it's the truth!

Wood is just so freakin' nasty looking. It's a shame they have to use it in bass construction at all, but at least they have the good taste to cover it up with spray paint and a big slab of plastic on the good stuff. Personally, I'm not happy unless my bass looks like something fresh off an assembly line in a Chinese sweatshop. :hyper:

anyone that paints over a beautiful piece of wood whether it be a bass or an armchair should be shot. then they should be drawn and quartered. then their pieces should be shot. or maybe i just watch too much hgtv, i dont know. :smug:

Well, I don't like the looks of Alembic instruments. But I like the sound of them, though the (to me) most annoying sound recorded with a bass also comes from an Alembic, and that has to be when Greg Lake went with his plec over the strings on "Fanfare for the common man". But all in all, there are still uglier basses than Alembics around.

I'd probably rent one for studio use, but I can't see myself ever owning one, let alone touring with one.

I'm pretty much used to plain woods. I like instruments with maple tops, though. I think even if I did order a bass from the Warwick shop, it'd be swamp ash with a maple top.

worst... advice... ever!

What gets to me is when someone shares an unsolicited opinion based on nothing better than a personal opinion and then tries to pass it off as something anyone else should give a damn about. You don't like figured woods? That's super! Don't care for Alembic shapes? Also super? Do more than 99.9% of the forum readers here care that you don't like them? I'd wager not in the least. You'd probably get more respect starting a boxers vs. briefs thread.

And folks, if you don't want to feed the troll that's fine, just make sure to give the Webtroll a cookie cuz I am HUNGRY!
