Alembic style basses look ugly to me...

Beautiful bass, but does it look like the body isn't straight to anyone else? Look at where the E and G strings line up with the laminates at the neck and at the tailpiece.

I hope you are not serious about the alignment...

I've never seen an misaligned Alembic. After they're done building them by hand, a real person (who's not in the least bit shy about sending a bass back for correction) inspects each one before shipping. Among the bass builders I know, Alembic is at least as serious about quality control as the best, and in an altogether different class than production line manufacturers. All those parallel lines are bound to photograph poorly from fairly close distances.

It has to be the picture angle. On my Les Paul Bass people commented the tail piece looks wrong or off. like the strings are bent

But on a straighter shot you can see it's not off- the curved top tends to make thing look distorted when photographed from an angle

I might as well be blind when it comes to bass colour/look. I could care less. My basses are natural, black, red, blue, green.... As long as the ergonomics of the bass are good for my body shape, I will play it.

I would play a pink polka dot bass with a lime green headstock and purple strings if it sounded good. A dream catcher hanging off a tuner? Bring it on, baby!:bassist::D

P.S. The above doesn't apply to Warwicks. I don't like Warwicks.:p:D

I'd have to disagree...

Just look at where the E-string hole on the tailpiece is in relation to the outer part of the center block of wood laminates. Then look at where G-string hole on the tailpiece is in relation to the same thing.

I think it's just the tailpiece that's off, but it is clearly shifted to the left.

say what you want about how an alembic looks, thats a persons opinion. but unless you are sitting right in front of that particular instrument how can you possibly make that statement. do me a favor and call micah at alembic and ask him how many instruments he lets out of his shop that arent PERFECT. or as near perfect as a mere mortal can make an instrument.

now normally here is where i would say stuff like "we don't post ugly bass threads here at talkbass" and "we only talk negatively about instruments we own", but here i'll break from my own rules and say with absolute certainty in my convictions that wood grain coffee table basses are absolutely hideos. if i could outlaw them i would, and if anyone posts any pictures of any they are not only playing russian roulette with their membership at this site but i will report them to their ip's for grievous abuse.

It probably is "misaligned", but not for reasons of sloppiness. There was a thread about this on the official Alembic Club.

FWIW, my Alembic is the best crafted bass I've ever played, bar none, and there isn't much I haven't played.

Anyway, I might pick up Warwicks if I get into a metal band. Otherwise, I'd be happy to play through a P-bass for an indie band.

Having just gone on about how woods don't make a difference to the sound then saying you might get a warwick is alittle hipocritical, every heard of the sound of wood ;) :) ps don't join a metal band :)

You are correct on both counts. I once knew a dude named Micah, and can see how the gender of the person with that name could get confusing. Oh, and I only play my Alembic blindfolded in the dark -- not because I think they're ugly, but because I hate being psychologically bound by the fretboard markers.:hiding:
