All music is sacred

seriously though, some music is really garbage.

especially some of the bands i've seen on NYC shows billed with 8-10 acts i used to to about 10 years ago.. the maniac who can barely tie his own shoes would go out and bang on his guitar while his girlfriend fresh off of a heroine relapse would "sing"

delusion is not sacred. there is an unbelievably vast amount of music that is sacred - some that sort of resembles what i describe above (that first velvet underground album comes to mind!).. but just because it's coming from a guitar or a human voice doesn't make it special, i refuse to accept that..

that's the problem with statements starting with "all." I don't think they want you to take that part of the sentence too seriously.

Edit: though in this case, "garbage" means "highly ethically questionable" to the point that you can't sever the music from its message.

Not asking you to break any rules by explaining, but I honestly can't figure out what type of music you're talking about. It's driving me a little nuts.

Hmm, all this topic did was make me spend fiteen minutes thinking about what the meaning of "sacred," is. On a related note: my hands . . . dude, have you ever really looked at your hands. . . how weird are hands.

Only in the limited context of European "classical" music, ie Beethoven wrote "sacred and secular" pieces, but Kurt here is saying that maybe all his music was sacred in a sense, or a person in an evangelical Church who is contemplating going out into the world to sing R&B which is the "devil's music", they would make that distinction...for awhile... No, maybe it's all sacred because it's communication in sound.

I think I'm coming to agree with Vonnegut's conclusions about humanity, or where it would be good for us to wind up.

I think I agree more with where he seemed to think we were likely to wind up if we didn't change our ways. This isn't a good thing. :(
