Any internet references to support that myth? I've never heard it. "The Beagles" is a pretty obvious slur used by many, including my barber father immediately after The Beatles' first Ed Sullivan appearance.

You can be absolutely sure that wasn't anywhere near their thinking when The Bee Gees started in 1958. Then, too, writing all their own original music, along with writing and producing several major hits for other artists, didn't hurt their well deserved rise to fame & fortune. Although I was not a fan of their nasally "chipmonk" voices at first in the mid '60s, their continued original hits finally won me over. Even John Lennon said of them in 1980, "There is nothing wrong with the Bee Gees. They do a damn good job." :thumbsup:

When I taught guitar we did band stuff too and one band played Love Me DO--and when they performed we called the the Beegles (Mis-spelled on purpose--just reversed what the Beatles did, but without the pun.)

OR you can google it. According to Wikipedia, Mean Mr. Mustard's sister was changed to transition better into Polythene Pam:

" A demo version of [Mean Mr. Mustard] was recorded in May 1968 at Kinfauns, George Harrison's home in Esher. It appears on Anthology 3 and the 2018 Deluxe Edition of The Beatles [White Album]. In this version, Mustard's sister is named Shirley. Lennon changed it to Pam when he saw the opportunity to ease the segue into the song "Polythene Pam", which follows "Mean Mr. Mustard" on the album. According to Lennon, "In 'Mean Mr. Mustard', I said 'his sister Pam'—originally it was 'his sister Shirley' in the lyric. I changed it to Pam to make it sound like it had something to do with it."​

A pleasure but not easy. I introduced one song at a gig once by saying something like "Here is another one from the Beatles, or as we call them, simple little songs that are surprisingly difficult to play well". Another time I had to explain to my wife how hard the Beatles songs can be to play well. They sound simple but are hard to pull off cleanly. She was amazed by my comment.

Very true!
A lot of the songs, even the early ones, have unexpected chords. Quite a few of John's songs have odd meter measures thrown in. The John/Paul/Ringo rhythm section had a fantastic feel. And, of course, it helps to have three great lead singers who can blend beautifully and pull off unorthodox harmonies. I've been in bands where someone naively suggests, "Let's try 'I Feel Fine!'" Uhhh, I don't think so. :( ;)

This looks like it would be an absolute blast! Wow, the opportunity to hang with The Fab Faux guys (especially Will Lee,) Marshall Crenshaw, Joan Osborne (who's version of "What Becomes of the Brokenhearted" with The Funk Brothers is one of my favorite lives performances, ever) and dozens of other fans would be a very memorable experience, indeed. @marchone - PLEASE post a follow up for all of our benefit, and include as many photos as possible to let us know how this went.

John has said that the Beatles were the best they ever were as a band when they were playing in Germany. Pete was the drummer at that time. Not knocking why they went with Ringo or the contribution that he made.

Despite what was done to him, Pete has shown a lot of class in all his post Beatles interviews. I’m glad that he finally made some Beatle money when the reissues were put out.

Pete was a decent musician, but the other 3 were exceptional by comparison. He just wasn't meant for stardom. I don't think most people are.
