Two things which have made our performances much more complete are that we added "Magical Mystery Tour" as our opener, and now end each performance with "Sgt. Pepper Reprise/The End" as our closer. After all of these years we finally have found the "bookends" which work well for us no matter if we're playing 45 minutes or 3 hours. Because we're acoustic based, the call and response solos alternate from acoustic guitar, flute and piano. The real fun for me is that the jam allows me to stretch out a bit, something I'm not able to do during the rest of the set.

Those first few chords of A Day In The Life keep getting in the way!! Oh wait! After exactly 3 soft chords of ADITL (which feels to me like the proper ending of Sgt. Pepper Reprise) I can hear the "Oh, Yeah! All Right! Are you gonna be in my dreams tonight?" leading right into that historic drum solo of The End! Is that anything like how you Fabs do it? Is there a video we can see?

Yes, I always thought the movie soundtrack lead-in sounded exactly like the real Bond theme. This was probably why.

Well, he always seemed to dislike The Beatles records, too, even his own songs! Maybe he just was just a better performer than a good listener.

Well, who am I to second guess Macca's medley making choices? But, since you ask, I find this transition a bit awkward. And then, in the guitar solos, Paul hits the first big clinker, which seems to make way for Brian and Rusty to get all "experimental", too.
I've read many articles of artists being so criticized for not playing their own songs "just like the record" that they had to go back and "learn" what they did, so I don't wanna harp on that; especially in this case, when two of the three original guitarslingers are no longer alive. But I do love the support and dynamics that Brian and Rusty always give Sir Paul, particularly Brian's flexibility on bass and guitar!
And I do wonder how close The Fab Eight's drum solo on bongos and/or cajon sounds, and what your acoustic based guitar shootout sounds like! From other videos I'm sure it's quite evocative of the originals!! Good on ya, Nixy! And thanks for sharing this.
Oh, BTW, here's another Pepper/End cover I found while looking for yours. The more I think about it though, it needs the first 3Ā½ chords of ADITL in the transition!
Don't get me wrong, I'm a big Beatles fan for 60 years and love Paul, et al. But if I hear Paul's Christmas song again I may lose it.

I had no idea they did this! My band has been doing this mini-medley for awhile and it's a crowd favorite! We moved Sgt. Pepper's Reprise up to G so the modulation drops up of right where we need to be for The End. Thanks for sharing this!
G-Dog - WOW! First of all, I'm surprised you remembered that our primary percussion is cajon (used with a hi-hat & cymbal) & bongos!
Actually, the combination of Sgt. Pepper Reprise/The End works well for us (and thanks for sharing the video of the other band playing this combination.) One thing we do differently in the transition as done by Paul's band and the other group on video is that we don't use audible drum beats as an intro between the songs, we silently count two beats then jump right into the first two chords of The End - this actually works quite well. The drum solo for us is a combination of the cajon keeping the beat and the bongos handling the drum fill parts; once the jam kicks in, the cajon player also incorporates his cymbal (or is it the hi-hat?
,) and the band member playing bongos switches to Tamborine. The solos are done by acoustic guitar, flute & piano, which all trade licks.The combination of the cajon & bongos working together allows us to perform Ringo's solo in a respective manner - it works pretty well. One place we failed several years ago was when "Rain" was temporarily in our setlist. This song only works with Ringo's unique fills throughout the song, so I envisioned the cajon and bongos working together. Unfortunately, our cajon player thought he could pull off all of the fills on cajon alone, but it simply didn't work - we dropped the song after only performing it a few times. IF we revisit it in the future, we'll be sure to include bongos going forward.
BTW, ADITL was a part of our setlist pre-COVID, but we haven't performed it in a few years. We even performed it a few times with the proper Sgt. Pepper Reprise intro.
Oh, and just a reminder we changed the name of the band to "Acoustical Mystery Tour" a few years ago after one of our bandmates (who lives about 4 hours away) retired. We pulled off "The Fab 8" name with only 7 people since 2017, but it became a bit goofy being down to 6 members. And yes, it may be corny but we do say the new band name once when we perform Magical Mystery Tour.
