I’m not really liking the changed stories lately. I don’t know what to think anymore, especially since they are one sided stories now. Recently how the Beatles broke up and now this…

My favorite recent headline is "McCartney Now Says John Broke Up Beatles". Wow! Talk about trying to rehash old news! I read that account of John asking for a "divorce" from the Beatles, and being asked by Klein to keep it secret, decades ago. That's not a change. But, it sounds sensational enough to drum up interest for his new book, right?
Paul writing the verses to ADITL, that John sings, is news to me, though. I go back to something I read way, way back where they both said that each of them usually sang the parts they wrote. But, of course each would contribute words or phrases to the other that were used, too. But who really cares? Anyway, let Yoko or Sean sue him if it's really that big a deal!
But, hey! Paul using profanity to describes some of John & Yoko's "beliefs"? Now, that should really sell some books!
1. I don't think "War is over (if you want it)" is so much a real belief they held as an artistic statement designed to (a.) Get attention, and (2.) Make people think and discuss. And the song "Imagine", I think, is also in that same vein; not that it could actually happen, but "wouldn't it be nice if ..."? John admits that he's dreaming, it's a fantasy. 
So, what?
B. Paul was actually hurt by some of John's (& Yoko's & Klein's) musical barbs in "How Do You Sleep"? Surprise, surprise! He's human. News flash!
I agree that Paul's "Too Many People" is the weakest musical barb on record (literally). I loved it as just a rockin' tune for decades without knowing it was targeting John! Maybe I was just clueless, I dunno. I don’t go in for tabloid drama, anyway.

I agree that Paul's "Too Many People" is the weakest musical barb on record (literally). I loved it as just a rockin' tune for decades without knowing it was targeting John! Maybe I was just clueless, I dunno. I don’t go in for tabloid drama, anyway. I chalk it up to PR, both for Paul's new "Lyrics" book (autobiography?) and for Peter Jackson's imminent "Get Back" movie series. But it's amazing to me the press and controversy these pop band dramatics can still generate after all these years.

A lot has been written about the Beatles breaking up. Business differences forced a management change. It required legal manoeuvres. Feelings were hurt. Working individually allowed them to make more money than as a group.
The Beatles never broke up as a business entity, to this day there’s a lot to manage. They stopped putting out new records as The Beatles, for a while, till Free As A Bird and Real Love.
They collaborated on projects.

Interesting historical piece. If I ever saw that album I must have immediately written it off mentally as just more repackaged carp since I already had all those songs (if not the same mixes) on my "more real Beatles" singles & albums.
I had felt SO severely "burned" by The Beatles with Tony Sheridan album, which I've described here, here & here, that thereafter I did "judge the album by the cover" and strongly shunned anything obviously repackaged, even the red and blue Past Masters! Even today, I'm not "into" all the various re-mixes being newly released. And the hoop-la over "the original mono mix collection" released a decade or so ago? Fuhgeddaboudit! I preferred the stereo versions for my dinky stereo player, at the time, and that is the soundtrack of my youth, for better or worse. Yep, the butchered, bloody U.S. stereo vinyl is my Beatles legacy and I'm sticking with it.
But, yeah, it's interesting to hear, or read, of other mixes, versions, packages. The Beatles Channel on SiriusXM plays enough of them for me to hear, so I don't gotta buy 'em.

The Mystery Bass of While My Guitar Gently Weeps
The tick-tack that they discuss is quite interesting. This is a country technique that dates back to 1958. They used a 6-string Danelectro bass guitar and doubled it with a regular bass. The Beatles used a Fender VI with distortion to do the same. It produces a bass with a clicky high end. John was a great fan of Roy Orbison who used it. His early songs were heavily influenced by Roy, McCartney was the same with Buddy Holly.
Tic-tac was everywhere in the early ‘60’s. Check out some of Sam Cooke’s popular recordings, from studios in New York. I read somewhere that producers adopted it as a way to make bass lines audible through the tiny “transistor” radios that were all the rage then. You could barely hear an upright bass at all through those things!
Today I was listening to a day in the life by the Beatles. I believe that McCartney was singing the ah ah ah vocals in the middle of the song. I remember there was a discussion a while back here about that. But it did sound like him.
If you listen to the isolated tracks, there’s multiple voices in there which complicates it even more. Geoff Emerick said it was John. I’d swear that it was George.
Well... I just listened again and I'm back to thinking it's John again.
