I've been researching combos.... My stage rig is a Mesa Impulse 600 and a Mesa Powerhouse 1000. There's no way I can haul the cabinet to the basement so it sits in the garage. So, I rely on combos for practice. Currently I have a GK 700RB 2x10 combo. Sounds good at low volume and low b reproduces fine.
Reason why I am looking other combos is that even the GK is getting heavy for me for those gigs that don't require my Mesa rig.
So the GK MB's are attractive, sure, but I've been more interested in the following simply because of the weight to power ratio and what I perceive as the latest in bass speaker tech:
- TC Electronic RS 2x10 and matching amp
- Trace Elliot Elf systems
- Genzler BA10-2 combo
The idea of small driver vertical arrays and small amps and cabinets are really attractive. Need more? Just add another small / lightweight cabinet. Moldularity over a single monster cab. Genzler is at the top of my list. I've no doubt it will reproduce what my Modulus Q5 outputs. If I buy in I may go ahead and get a TCE pedal for the tone prints. Eventually I could get another Genzler cab and I could have a new rig for small clubs, the Mesa being regulated to larger venues or even sold.
Point is, bass tech has advanced a lot so IMO if your looking at gear the above should be considered (tech in general, weight, power, modular components). Quantum leap in tech considering you're moving on from what you have pictured.
