Am I asking too much?

Sorry if this thread is against the rules. I just don't know where else to ask.

I have a blue line SVT in the classifieds and on craigslist. I have it listed for 2K and am not getting any hits. I took it to the local vintage shop that recapped/retubed it to ask about value. They said 2000-2500 so I thought I would put it at the lower end of the spectrum so it sells faster. Am I still asking too much realistically?

Because it's a vintage blue line?

Its used. It holds only as much value, as you can get for it on the day of it's sale. For a lot of guys that give a piss about the image of vintage gear, they are going to be picking up other less known items for a lot less than this. For $2k they can find rarer/more sought after gear.

The only one you are going to find that will pay $2k for this, is someone trying to relive their glory days.

Although that carries some value I'm not sure how much more people would be willing to pay for it. I think your shop gave you a very high estimate

Also, most that would be looking to buy that need to figure in what it would cost to have a shop go through the amp and make sure it's in perfect working order. Even if you've already done it some may still bring it in.

Many bluelines in good shape sell for $2000 or more. Your amp has been serviced which is a big plus. I don't think that they misled you.

Your asking price is not bad, the problem is timing. The market is at a low right now and gear is not selling as well as it did in the recent past. If you want to sell now, you might have to accept less. Sales usually pick up closer to Christmas and at tax return time. If you can wait a month, things should improve.

new VRs are 2200. I put 2000 OBO. I was asking bc I have had it on CL for a few weeks.

Better to price too high than too low. :)

I'd take a vintage blueline over a new one any day and I can't imagine I'm the only one.

Couple days is nothing. It can take a while for more expensive items to sell. Keep the paperwork from the tech with it and give it some time.

It's been more than a few days.

Craigslist is never a place to maximize profits. Its all low balls and bargain shoppers. If people are paying 900-1200 on ebay, you're not going to get 2g on Craigslist. Just not going to happen.

TB pricing is generally pretty good, although usually it's users are knowledgeable about market rate, so if you're high in the current market, you may not realize what you want. I was told when I sold my 73P "don't sell it for a dime less than $3K" by a dealer/vintage expert. Other people here will tell you "you can buy those for 1300$ all day long"... I priced it at 2500$ and sold it in 24 hours.

If you're going to sell here take good pictures. Lots of them and of ALL the details. Full disclosure in living color. Expect to field questions and sometimes 'fussy' ones.

**also don't lead with "Used to have these problems..." Lead with all the GOOD STUFF and then give the full disclosure. More than two pictures. ALL sides, including INSIDES. It takes some prep time to sell an amp or instrument well.
