Am I asking too much?

Will33 brings up an excellent point about listing in multiple cities; you'll get a lot more lookers and tire kickers but it only takes one motivated buyer to make it worth the stress. Just be sure you negotiate meeting safely and feel comfortable with the purchase price + - gas/travel if that's an issue.

I had to drive from Austin to Houston to sell an amp, but I was happy to do so for the full $1800 I sold the amp for!

You know, I had a crazy thought that might help market your amp in a unique way but would likely cost you some time and sanity:

What would you think about renting out your SVT for shows? It could go something like this:

You advertise your amp on Craigslist (and anywhere else) but say that for local buyers (by your definition) you would be willing to let them play it for an hour in their band practice or maybe at a gig (so that they could see how it sounds alone and with their band). Here's the rub...you are there the entire time to monitor and adjust the volume so that your amp isn't damaged by someone unfamiliar with it (obviously non-compliance means an end of the test drive). Charge $50-$100 or so, and if you're feeling generous you could add that towards the cost of purchase if the buyer decides they want it! If not, they got to play on a vintage SVT and you're $50-$100 richer.

Who knows, enough of this and you may have your $2k and still keep your SVT!
I like the way you think. You could call sound companies in the area and tell them that you'd rent it out for backline if needed.
