Am I wrong?

FWIW: IMO Europe was pretty good band; I bought my copy of "The Final Countdown" last year and even now those songs sound good; their look might have been typical for that time period, but the music was and still is good. There's no need to diss a band that actually played better and with more sense that most of the bands of the time...but hey, we can trash everyone and everything for the sake of "forum humor"...right :rollno: ? Pfff...

I remember seeing a live recorded video of them at one point and specifically recall the guitarist being a monster and seemed ahead of his time. IMHO.

A guy in the Fender Forum wanted to know what gear the bassist from the band Europe used on tour in 1986. I dogged him a little bit, all in good fun - used laughing emoticons not shown here. This was my response:

Who cares? Europe sucked!

Do you really expect someone to remember what gear an insignificant bassist from an insignificant band played on an insignificant tour named after an insignificant song 25 years ago?!

Everyone got bent out of shape. Am I wrong for displaying a sense of humor?

One mans attempt at humor might just be another man's...

I used to be really into shreddy guitar back in the day so I actually knew and still know the names of the guitarists- kee marcello and John Norum. Both Swedish as is yngwie. I remember wondering why Sweden was so full of neoclassiical guitar players. In those days it was still pretty uncommon.

Kee Marcello. Gave Malmsteen a run for his money back in the day.

I love it when the odd misplaced thread forces the OCD sufferers out into the open.
I bet they keep all their CDs in alphabetical order too.

Just because you don't like Europe does not mean the rest of the world shares your opinion. I see the post in question as plain and simple trolling. How is telling someone the music they enjoy is insignificant and sucks all in good fun? To me that has nothing to do with good fun and everything to do with just being mean.

Also how can you call a band that made a song that probably about 1/4 of the worlds population would recognize by it's opening notes insignificant? I'm no fan of Europe but calling them insignificant just shows you don't know what you are talking about.

Yes. You are wrong.

I think this does relate to the Fender Forum - so here on TB people are chatting and having a laugh, within reasonable boundaries, of course.

But the Fender Forum is something that you get to from Fender's official website and is like their "Customer Service" - so there are so many millions of Fender owners around the world that Fender couldn't have a call-centre to answer every question about Fenders.

But they do have this website where you can ask specific questions about Fender basses and get helpful replies.

I remember when I first went there, it was after I had bought a Roscoe Beck V and I couldn't get strings to fit through the body - I really wanted an answer, from somebdoy who knew what they were talking about and I went to the Fender Forum and was able to get good advice from Fender employees who frequent the forum.

I can imagine, if I had just got replies along the lines of "Roscoe Beck sucks LOL" - then I would have been pretty annoyed!!

Later, I discovered that the Fender Forum does actually have sections for humour etc. and later still I discovered TB which is much more fun! ;)

After already being a member of TB, I asked a question on the Fender forum and they quoted a post from TB!

To the OP: Maybe you should have waited until the thread already had a reply or two? :p

.
Yes, you are correct..........
And by example:
YouTube - worst cover ever! *the final count down*
:hiding:

I'd be willing to bet, now that you bring it up, that the first few notes of "Final Countdow" are almost as recognizable as something such as "Brick House"

Crazy huh?

Wrong? No. Misplaced? Yes.

I agree with this.

I've been flamed for making off-hand remarks that I thought were pretty tame, and in retrospect I probably should have kept my comments to myself. I wasn't trying to cause a stir, but I did. I'm a little more careful now.

Not a lot, just a little.

Also, those LOLs can easily be misinterpreted. Are you laughing with me or at me? It's not really clear.

To paraphrase Nigel and David, "there's a fine line between clever and stupid..."

If one wants to try and be funny, they should be prepared for some backlash and humor isn't universal. Plus saying something rude then following with an emoticon doesn't always get you a free pass. "lol" doesn't necessarily excuse being a jerk, though much of the interwebs seems to think an emoticon absolves them from all blame.

While misplaced threads don't bother me, I do keep my CDs and DVDs in alphabetical order, my magazines by title and in chronological order, and my textbooks ordered by category (with as often as I reference old materials throughout the semester, the odds that they'll stay in the correct alphabetical order is quite low).

Also, to stay on topic with Europe in this thread, the vocalists of 80s metal were incredibly gifted vocalists and had fantastic technique. The music is not my cup of tea, but the vocal ability is definitely respectable.
