IMHO it sounds good, but not THAT good. I assume you're not talking about the USA MTD's, and if you are, wow, I have to figure they musta' had something wrong with them.

I think the slap part on fretted didn't sound that good because the guy had an extremely middy sound going on.
This is bound to cause neck stability problems, though. I imagine this working pretty well with a graphite neck, though.

Yay thanks for letting me know! I work for a German company and their server is German. I could never watch these video's at work!!!

although I DO find the concept of a fretted/fretless instrument interesting, I was disappointed with the demo video. If you're gonna show someone playing the instrument, at least get someone who CAN PLAY IN TIME, WITH A CONSISTANT GROOVE!!!!!!!! This guy rushes like a madman on slapped fretted bass. VERY uncomfortabe for the listener. And his fretless ideas lack something . . . MELODIC INTEREST!!!!!

I'm not really a negative person, but, come on, if you're gonna slap, ya' GOTTA groove!!!!

I bet people said something similar about the first fretless electric bass.

Whenever you like if you had this bass. I would. Perhaps the reason people don't is because it's a pain to have 2 basses ready to go and have to quickly switch between them? If innovators didn't try new things like this, then none of us would be playing bass today.

well i was going to get a dean pace EUB, and i was going to plug that and my ksd into an a/b box, i might use the pace for the verses if its a soft part, then for more energy and attack switch to the ksd


stanley clarke switches between piccolo and normal basses all the time mid song

I just took a look at the website. This bit was interesting:

It is currently undergoing stress testing. The mechanism is hooked up between two solenoids that are driving it back and forth. As of Thursday Fabruary 16th 2006, the count is up to 640,800 switchings. That’s 20 switches a day for 87.78 years. There is still no sign of wear. The goal is to exceed one million. We will keep you posted.

Maybe it is durable enough for everday use?
