You guys can buy gift subscriptions years in advance. You then tell them when you want it to be active or to be gifted. I bought five years worth of prime back in 2011, at $79.00. I read somewhere how to do it but it's been a long time. I paid $100 for the last few years, but now I think I'm going to buy more years and you don't actually have to pay I think until the subscription becomes active. The price increase isnt in stone yet. Maybe someone can find how to do it.

I joined Prime mainly for the Video but I'm probably getting my money's worth out of Prime Shipping. I used to buy a lot of stuff off Ebay but Amazon has mostly supplanted that. I've even started buying food from Amazon!
I took advantage of Amazon's easy returns at Kohl's and I wasn't the only one. The 2 people in front of me and the 1 behind behind were there for the same thing. The receipt they give you has a 25% off coupon so Kohl's is definitely getting more foot traffic as a result of teaming up with Amazon. I had a look at the clothing section and while the stuff was overpriced, I did score a Van Heusen dress shirt for $5.50!
I didn't know that was a thing! My wife is already addicted to Kohl's.
I'll be staying. The free 2-day shipping and being able to watch "The Grand Tour" make it worthwhile to me.
I just got an email today. The $119 price doesn't even start until 6/19. 2018 is still $99.
They've graciously deigned to allow me to slide by this year (I've waited forever to use that word!), but in 2019? We'll see. I more or less got shamed into Amazon Prime anyway - with a free Kindle Fire, among other things - but, I don't use the tablet much, and Amazon is always writing me with "But..but.. you have all this cool Prime stuff.. and you're not using it... Why??" And my answer is, that I'm just a pinball kind of guy in a video game world, and frankly, I'd rather be riding my Harley...
am i staying? you bet! we got an exercise bike delivered free in the past year, and often when we discover in the morning that we've run out of something, half the time we can get it delivered the same day so we don't have to run out and get it... if we even can. i no longer have to deal with heavy things like 40 pound bags of cat litter - they just show up at our door

what abuse? they allow up to four family members on one account. the sub accounts don't get access to stuff like prime now, but we all get free shipping, and up to four family members can use prime music.

The intent of Households on Prime is for other people in your household to gain access to the benefit (i.e. roommates, children, etc) - not to share it across family members in different homes. It was 3 or 4 years ago Amazon made a pretty big change and announcements about this... though I'm quite sure you're not alone in abusing the situation (and I doubt Amazon cares a whole lot about it, but, it likely factors in at some point).

Amazon’s market cap value is quickly approaching Apple’s. Both are on track to exceed $1T. That’s Trillion with a T. Although Apple is far more profitable.

amazon and their reps might have grandfathered us in. they are very aware we are three households - we've talked to reps about it, and - like i said - these are three separate accounts at three addresses.
we have three family members' households using one prime account, so it's a deal right there. we use prime video, which is their version of netflix streaming, and for $150 a year all three households have and use music.amazon.com, which is a really good deal if you use a streaming service.

I've had an exercise bike delivered too, as well as three separate beds and frames. All free shipping. Just the shipping cost from the beds alone at a furniture store would have cost me two years worth of prime membership.

I ordered a 3KW generator weighing about 80 lbs. Free Prime shipping. It arrived damaged, dropped in shipping. Took me 5 mins to arrange a return online. Didn’t have to talk to anyone or argue about what happened. UPS picked it up the next day. Amazon refunded me. Other than inconvenience it cost me nothing.
I'm sticking with it and I'm not even upset about the increase. $10 a month for videos, unlimited photo storage, and free shipping (and I probably spend more on Amazon than I do in brick and mortar stores) is fine by me. Now, the Netflix increases...those I don't like.
