Ambient/Post-Rock/Textural bass playing thread

@monsterthompson

what’s the verdict on the javelin? been eyeing one of late.

It’s good but not amazing. Utility is solid. I think sonically I prefer the Noise Engineering Sinc Bucina is VCA mode (no VCF/LPG effect). There’s a brighter crispier sound to it. That said, the Javelin is way more flexible with the envelope and modes. I think it’s a pretty good tool to have at that price. Anything else you’re considering?

you can never have too many envelopes or vca’s, right?

thought about the alm tangle 4tet, which is cheaper, but less versatile (no envelope, but 4x vca vs. 1x vca + env).

i like the c4rbon, so the javelin (why didn’t they do as j4velin?) seems like a good complementary piece.

you like the jumble henge, right?

Great quote. What's the source? I'm more curious about when, actually....

@lucas303 found it!

Eno always has interesting things to say. Unfortunately I've never been able to really get into his music, with a few odd exceptions.

Oh man. I love Taking Tiger Mountain, Here Come The Warm Jets, Another Green World…love his early ‘rock’ stuff. My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts was super interesting for its time, I thought. Listened to that and Material’s “Memory Serves” records a whole lot when they came out. Very influential to me. I always thought Bloc (@steubig’s old band) had a bit of a Material vibe at times

Yeah. It’s a good tool to have and not wildly priced. It’s got some uncommon features. I couldn’t say not to buy it.

I’m surprised there isn’t something like the Frankenstein VCA/VCF/ADSR on the market, or more of them if they exist. Im looking at the Erica VCF/VCA combo that just dropped. It’s not compact but it’s probably pretty nice.

I do enjoy the Jumble Henge. I was surprised by that module. It’s quite handy for general tone shaping even if you aren’t trying to use it for all the dimension separation on multiple signals, as an end of chain “mixer.” I thought I’d like the MUM8 and the new dual VCF more based on the Henge experience, but I wasn’t inspired with the demo I tried.

I just got back from having an MRI. I have to say that was an amazing sound experience. I’d get another one just to hear that agin. Wild variety of alien and retro sounds. Surround spatial placement. I couldn’t stop smiling and laughing, and trying to figure out how to recreate what I was hearing.
10/10

Too bad you can't bring a recording device of any sort in there to get a reference.

Oh man.

you can add "remain in light" to that for me.

i can hear that. a friend recently related a story that the first time he came to my house (we were in college at the time), i played him "memory serves" and "thriller" . . . .[/user]

I’m sure Meris has a reverb engine for their new Delay pedal format in the works.

I’m waiting on that new Qu Bit reverb for the rack.

I also have a baritone guitar plan in the works. Sam Ash has a trade in special and a sale going so I might do a little swapping.
As an aside, I saw a Danelectro baritone on the local Craigslist that looked cool as all hell (and I'm generally not into the Danelectro aesthetic).
