Ambient/Post-Rock/Textural bass playing thread

upload_2022-12-19_20-28-6.jpeg

It's not glamorous and won't impress anyone in photos of pedal boards, but the Line 6 HX Effects is without a doubt the best bang for the buck I've spent on any effect. Today's discovery is the shuffling looper (I say "discovery" but it's been a feature for who knows how long...I just didn't bother to mess with it until now). My GAS for a Soma Cosmos is now cured (or at least in remission). I am not being hyperbolic when I say that if someone said I had to ditch all my pedals and could only use the Line 6, I wouldn't even be mad (well, assuming I could sell the pedals and recoup some of that cash).

Speaking of GAS, I've now got a Qu-Bit Nautilus on the way.

I just got a Boss RE-2 Space Echo because reasons. Will post pics later.

I have wanted an RE-2 for a while and finally decided to treat myself to a Christmas present. Just in time, too, I used it to record some stuff already with the Minimoog Voyager and it sounds great.

I am a hopeless delay addict...

Anyone have experience with Maneco Labs Grone Drone Synth?

Pedal: Grone Drone Synth – MANECO LABS

This is the first thing that has piqued my interest in a while. In addition to the Eurorack version, there is a pedal version and a "tabletop" version - I wonder if the tabletop is standalone or needs Eurorack power? It's all fantasy for now, I'm having my roof replaced so have to wait for that to finish before spending money on anything else. Hey, at least the roof is less expensive than a new Alembic!

i had no idea that there’s a whole thread of boudoir photos of pedals.

Strange as I read this the roofers are banging away and 2 weeks ago we had a new hot water heater, home ownership bliss. I'm still using an app for drones and such, no budget for such a gadget. My splurge was the B2600.

I had been jonesing for an analog style Delay for a while but I'm frugal, finally found a deal on a Sushi Box FX Echosaurus. His take on the Binson Echorec and a whole bunch of funnn especially for making noises.

Okay, new album time, including this track recorded with the Space Echo pedal and Minimoog Voyager:

Any opinions, ideas, whatever to share with other on The Caretakers music?
I have my own opinion (that i will keep fpr myself at this time), but Id like to hear/read some of yours.

since he’s probably one of the “biggest viral” artists in the “ambient/textural” side of the musical spectrum, I want some feedback from the others on the ole thread here must to shake up stuff.

:)

This guy with his 6+ hour release about dementia?

I skipped around a few bits so I clearly don’t have the entire concept album under my belt. I’m intrigued by the idea of what’s being presented but my immediate reaction is that there’s way too much snap crackle and pop layered on everything I heard. Maybe this works for the ASMR folks but it’s harder for me to listen to than Zakk Wylde ham-fisting Dime’s solos.

I listened to parts of the big dementia thing. It's effective, and creepy as hell. But it's kind of a conceptual art project thing, not something to actually listen to and enjoy IMHO.
