Ambient/Post-Rock/Textural bass playing thread

Somebody got a new ambient bass :)
Time to put it through the effects.

Because I have at least two kinds of back pain/stiffness and a habit of really bad posture, I got myself an Upright Go 2. It's a little tilt sensor that you stick on your upper back or wear on a silicone necklace, that communicates with a phone app and warns you with a vibration pattern if you're slouching. There's also some training thing on there that scores you on "uptime" but that part seems like BS.

It occasionally catches me slouching. It doesn't detect the other weird ways I have a tendency to sit, bending my lower back wrong or really tensing up my shoulders, though... I have to work that out on my own. Also, I probably sleep wrong too (I messed up my shoulder once by sleeping on my arm wrong and had to go to physical therapy for it :P).

Does my back feel any better after a few days of doing this? Absolutely not, it's kind of worse right now.

It went off ALL THE TIME when I was patching the modular. The ergonomics are not ideal. I kind of want to replace my 12U case with a vertical one, but I also kind of don't because cases are expensive and because this one has my wife's pyrography on it. I will put off making any kind of decision for now and just try to scoot closer.

It only went off a little bit when I was playing the Miezo. I've been trying to not hunch over and stare at the fretboard as much and I guess that's working.

The upright modular case was a big help. Placing it on a standing desk was even better. It’s not for everyone but it’s a good rig for me.

dang @Starthief, how old are you?

i jest, i jest.

sorry!

i have similar issues from sleeping in messed up ways.

my solution at times has been the chiro/acupuncture/pt guy that i see, as it gets to some more deeply rooted areas that an app won’t be able to address. at least that’s my story.

50, but with all the youthful vigor of a 75-year-old and the anxiety of a 25-year-old :P

I should probably see a chiropractor or massage therapist or something.

Nordstrand Acinonyx v2. It’s based on an old Goya Panther. I have the v1 which has two T Bird style pickups. 31” scale. Tight string spacing.

Some more works in progress..

I don’t know that these will turn into anything. Maybe the second.

The second one features Behringer 303 clone into an OC-5, Dreadbox envelope filter and EQD Sea Machine. Sequenced with HY Plugins: HYRPE2

I’ve been loving all of their plugins and would highly recommend that one and their filter one. You can modulate all the parameters and set a probability percentage. They are very intuitive too.

Free to try anyway

First one is a weird future sci-fi cartoonish thing ??

Im not sure tbh

A couple quick updates.
While building the rack I pictured last weekend, I also moved stuff around in my main rack and am trying to set up a more "Easel-like" performance setup for my Implexus. So far so good, though there is also an actual Easel Command for sale in the area that is haunting my dreams. We will see.

In other news, this arrived:

As you can see there is already cat hair on it. I have 3 weeks to return it if I don't fall in love.

So far I can report it has way more capacity than the HX Stomp. It also has way more device flexibility than the FM9 (which I am going to sell). Fractal really Has Opinions about which kinds of processing you should be able to do and how much (want two pitch blocks? too bad -- but you can have like 4 delays running at once). The FM9 is big enough that I don't want to use it if it can't replace my whole pedalboard, and it can't.

There are more plug-and-play bass options on here than the Fractal and fewer than the HX, and some of the user captures sound good to my ears as well. Wi-fi is appreciated. The effects themselves are a bit basic for the moment compared to a H9, but I've already created something like a pitch delay I use a lot on the H9. Soundwise the jury is out. The thing I loved about Fractal was being able to precisely phase align two speaker cab impulse responses, which did wonderful things to the sound. That's not possible here and if you're using 3rd party IRs, there is no clear way to do that.

I do not think they could have possibly crammed any more AI-related branding into it. Like if they did, it would open up a black hole or something: neural this, cortex that.
