Must resist. Just got an ottobit jr and meris midi to control that and a hedra. Plus ive barely scratched the surface w the particle or any of my montreal assembly stuff. Gotta.focus on that before I eventually zoia.

I don’t quite know what shoegaze is anymore... to me that used to mean smashing pumpkins in the 90’s...

I tend to exist on the metal side of stuff so bands like pelican (instrumental), or Minsk would satisfy the ambient yet noise crushing type songs...

As for how to do ambient bass.. I went with a cross between my band board and a few play pedals as attached plus dabble in a few computer vsti synth every now and again as the cheap option..

I went into a local shop today and started checking out delay pedals. Of course, I already have several delay pedals, but it's like an addiction, as you know, the dark road of delay effects that just goes on and on and on and...anyway, I decided to check out two, the newish Fender delay and the Boss DD-7 digital delay.

I wound up taking the Boss home with me. I think it helps to remind ourselves that Boss still makes damn good pedals, and sometimes we (or I anyway) take them for granted because they don't have all that cool boutique vibe, but when it came to features, sounds, and construction, the DD-7 is just a solid piece of work.

The Fender pedal I tried out was the Mirror Image Delay Invalid Link Removed

It's a decent effect, with a modulation effect built in, kind of like a chorus. But I didn't see any sort of tempo adjustment other than turning the time knob. For micro pedals and regular analog pedals I don't expect to see that function, but for a modern full size digital delay I feel like it should have a tap or strum tempo. The Boss DD-7 has it. So does my TC Electronics Flashback. The DD-7 is also stereo and has a expression pedal input. To sweeten the deal, it was ten bucks cheaper than the Fender and because it had no box (but it does have the manual) the dealer gave me another discount. Hard to turn that down.

I’m digging back in with NI Maschine. I spent too much time trying to make it a DAW, which really isn’t its strong suit. Now I’m thinking of it more as a sampler and trying to use it as it was intended; to mangle and remix audio clips. This week, my goal is to sample some bass guitar and try building a beat around that audio.

I'm glad you decided to be "indulgent", your band was one of the best of this bunch. I listened to about an hour of content, and my favourite was "Under an impressive sky"

Do you know anything else in the same vein as Bowery Electric? Electronic shoegaze tend to be on the dreamy/happy side, like Sweet Trip, i'm not aware of any others who do this type of austere, dark trip-hop.

I’ll be doing something similar this week. Putting a Make Noise Morphagene and Mutable Clouds into the modular case and will be playing bass into that contraption. Most likely sampling the various results into my Octatrack to come up with some sort of all bass orchestra :)

Portishead is the first thing that comes to mind. Especially the "Third" album. Although I wouldn't call them trip hop anymore, the Third album is kind of dark psychedelia. I think it's their best stuff. Wish they would do more.

This is my favorite song of theirs, in my opinion it's their best and blows away their 90s trip hop stuff.

That's a tough one. I think Bowery Electric was sadly unique given how awesome everything they produced was. Here's my best shot - some of these approximate their mood to me:

Sheesh...this thing grew out of control fast. Between what I have and what a buddy loaned me, my modular rig has grown into this...

It’s a strange setup and won’t last long, but it’s a start. The 1U tiles up top will likely be filled with utility stuff like VCAs, mults and whatnot. The Make Noise DPO will go away once my buddy needs it back. Same for the Morphagene, Cold Mac and Turing machine. I’m thinking about not having any VCOs anyway as I have a few nice synths and really want this modular setup for manipulating live bass anyway. Removing the DPO would make room for filters and effects/manglers. Even considering another sampler in there like a Bastl GrandPa. Something small and lo-fi. Getting kinda crazy, but people spend even more on pedal boards and I’d rather have this :)
I’ll likely keep the 3 drum modules in there because I’m getting results that are quite different from any drum machine I’ve ever used
