Ambient/Post-Rock/Textural bass playing thread

It's probably juuuust within reach. It doesn't have delay, however, so I don't know how much I'd get out of it. And I absolutely despise flanger as an effect. How tweakable is the Dispatch Master in respect of using differing levels of reverb and delay? And how is the sound quality of the zoom?

Dispatch Master doesn't do 100% wet. The mix knob adds effect mixed to a clean signal.

I know that the Dispatch Master utilizes both reverb and delay, but try not to think of it as 2 pedals in one. It really is a unique mix of the two effects that turns this pedal into something totally different. I like to run it after a fuzz for some really cool synthy type tones as well.

so no tone loss? i briefly used an ernie ball, it was awful. just a wet blanket on my sound.

i see this could be used as a volume or expression. could it be wired for both simultaneously or am i asking too much of one pedal?

I don't notice any tone loss, but I have so much on my board that I think it's negligible by the end of the signal chain.

The ability to use it as an expression pedal was another factor in my choosing it. I haven't actually tried this, but I think you could run it as both an expression and volume, as long as you're okay with the fact that you'll also be affecting the volume at the same time.

i found that passive volume pedals weren't working for me, so i have an ernie ball mvp coming in about a week. i'll let you know how i like it. has some features i don't think i'll use, but i think it will do the job.

What about passive pedals do/did u not like? I actually was going to go buy a used Vox V850 tomorrow morning and am curious. Super hard to find any info on the pedal But yeah it is passive.

ok, so my experience with volume pedals is somewhat limited, but i had a ernie ball 6166 mono. i had a long run of pedals and cable which may have contributed to my problem. it sounded like a wet blanket had just been thrown over my sound at any position in the pedal. after some reading up, i decided that maybe an active volume was for me. i'll try to find the link i came across to share.

Hmmmm interesting read. Now do you normally use active or passive basses?

I also encountered that wet blanket sound, not with a volume pedal, just this one time I straight daisy chained around 12 pedals. Now I use a bypass looper and can hook up however many I want. I'm curious as if in your situation it was a combination of a long daisy chain and using active basses with a bad match impedance passive volume pedal. Although it's true if it's an active volume pedal I guess you don't have to worry about what bass you decide to use.

Let us know when you get this in and how it works with bass. Maybe its just me being skeptical but i dont see the gain boost working too great with bass. Sounded good with guitar.

I ended up buying the passive vox volume pedal. Tried it with guitar real quick since i had it in the room. I'll try and test it on bass later both passive and active to see if i notice any differences/problems.

i will definitely update! my idea (at least in theory)is to have the gain and min volume at 0 so that it operates as a normal volume pedal. i may look like a idiot in the next week, but i'm used to it!

A lot of people run their EQ at the end of their chain because that's typically where their DI is (bundled in the EQ pedal). But I find it better for my tone to have one at the beginning of my chain, just after my compressor. If I keep a short lead from my bass into my EQ pedal (MXR preamp), I can adjust my input and output gains and simulate an active bass levels. I can then drive and EQ shape and more importantly an active gain into my other pedals and they seem to respond really well with it. no tone loss through 11 pedals and I'm getting a great output level to my amp / DI. I'm currently using the DI on my amp (an old Trace head) and the results are mixing desk friendly. In an ideal world, I'd have a pair of EQ pedals, one at the beginning and one at the end of my chain. This would allow me an EQ to drive through my pedals and then a final tweek to the output EQ.....thinking about it....there's the 7 band eq on my Trace Elliot head which is just before the DI...:D

i have toyed with the idea of adding a more comprehensive eq, but i really wanted to avoid adding pedals to make the volume pedal work, i.e.:buffer, eq, etc......

how does having a signal with a little more oomph effect your fuzz? when i changed basses (still passive, but a hotter signal, it made my fuzz pedal sound like a wet fart.)
