Ambient/Post-Rock/Textural bass playing thread

i have toyed with the idea of adding a more comprehensive eq, but i really wanted to avoid adding pedals to make the volume pedal work, i.e.:buffer, eq, etc......

how does having a signal with a little more oomph effect your fuzz? when i changed basses (still passive, but a hotter signal, it made my fuzz pedal sound like a wet fart.)

The MXR preamp has an input and output gain control. So if one bass is passive and the other is active, I can up the input gain so the levels match into the Fuzz unit.

Every now and then, a "bass reverb" thread pops up and dies fairly quickly, but I wanted to create a slightly more permanent area for those of us who play bass in ambient, post-rock, or similar bands so that we can discuss technique, gear, pedals...all that fun stuff.

Takes me back to experiments I was doing with bass in the early 1990s. I wish I'd taken it further, but I might do something afresh.

That particular recording reminds me very much of a piece I heard being played to some footage of polar scenes (north or south I can't recall). I enjoyed your piece. Very restful.

The other things I was doing included gated reverb (think M-386 by Eno).

just thought i'd update you guys. lots of new pedals, decided to completely redo my board. ernie ball mvp, swollen pickle, delay and cbc harmonic percolator (plain silver box) just got here, so i haven't been able to put them thru their paces yet. all the time based effects are on the top and in a loop (boss ls2) so i can layer. morley a/b is their to switch between basses, but i am seriously considering putting a eh rtg in one of the inputs. thoughts?

Question: does the following device exist?

I'm looking for a "panning" pedal, basically I want a mono signal from my bass or pedalboard output to go in and two mono channels (or one stereo channel) out, a "left" and a "right", which I can then control with, say, and expression pedal to swing the signal between left and right.

Imagine two amps, one on either side of the stage, or two channels in a recorder, and while playing your instrument you can swing the signal smoothly between channels with the pedal.

I know they make this sort of thing for modular synthezesiers, usually controlled with a knob instead of a pedal...

For me I'm not in a band that does ambient/post rock. But i do like those types of sounds and use them for song intros or filling silence between songs onstage. The hardwire supernatural is cool, lately I've been running my bass whammy into a line 6 m9 and coming up with some interesting sounds. On the m5 i use the particle verb, Octiverb, can't remember the name of it but these a boss slow gear model i renamed but like it'll simulate kind of a cello sound. I also use a jamman to play samples when i myself actually want to tune but want to keep some type of audio going. During songs the jamman is used for quick one shot samples like bass drops or one liners from movies, but between songs I'll play a looped sample so it'll play however i long i want it to until i stop it.

Yes some of the settings have that shimmer at the end of the know with the weird high tones. But some of the more subtle reverb settings like the plate made some pretty epic washy bass goodness

I've actually since sold that pedal and replaced it with a tc Hall of fame. I like the way the hall of fame sits in a live band mix better. The supernatural was unbeatable for solo stuff though.

EQD Rainbow Machine can add some crazy to your bass sounds. Set with tracking slow, magic high, and pitch at noon, it'll add little rumbles and trails. I'll run TRex Bass Juice, and Squeezer, into a stereo chorus, and a filter, on to the Rainbow Machine, then delay. The results are otherworldly.
