Ambient/Post-Rock/Textural bass playing thread

On my board i have a Boss Digital delay an di like it, and i want to get a second delay. Should i get another digital or should i get analog ? Pros and Cons?
Get an analog delay! You already have a digital so might as well mix up the arsenal. But also a analog sounds more warmer and once you get into stacking delays and its many tricks you'll love the sound of a analog going onto a digital for drones and such :) so good

Thanks for the input! Also, for future reference, what are the differences in putting analog first then digital and vice versa? Any major differences?

Just found this thread! I read through everything, and I can't wait until I can listen to some stuff. My band Barry Place plays post-metal (in a word, see full description in my sig). We're a three-piece and love huge pedalboards... here's mine (sorry for the kinda bad pic):

Our first album is being mixed right now... here's a video from our first show. We open with an Isis cover, and the rest is all original.

Nothing too major but with digital I find I'm able to dial in more precise cuts or exact repeats. In essence it's like my approach would be that I like the analog sound better and I use the digital to refine the sound I want coming from the analog. Also a major reason for me is that I've yet to find an analog delay that lets you disengage the pedal with trails, which I happen to love. So again I can do whatever tricks I might want to do stacking both my delays and when it comes to disengaging them by turning off the digital last I can get some nice trails and not just a harsh cut of the delay effect. But experiment both ways and see if you find any differences/preferences.

I have a question for you delay/reverb experts. I'm really interested in getting into some more ambient and alt-rocky kind of stuff (think bombay bicycle club). Problem is, I'm a uni student, so funds are low. I'm looking for something that will give me reverb and delay, to be able to do washes, drones etc. At the moment I'm looking at the Zoom MS-70CDR and the EQD Dispatch Master. Thoughts on them? Will they do what I need?

The Epitome might be a bit out of reach. The Dispatch Master is a outstanding pedal and would likely lead you to a happy place. But I might suggest going with the Zoom, at least at the outset. It has a lot more options and is less expensive.

It's probably juuuust within reach. It doesn't have delay, however, so I don't know how much I'd get out of it. And I absolutely despise flanger as an effect. How tweakable is the Dispatch Master in respect of using differing levels of reverb and delay? And how is the sound quality of the zoom?

that's cool! any other volume pedal suggestions, guys?

I love my Boss FV-500. It's big, but that makes it easier to control. You can also adjust the resistance, and set a minimum volume level (so for example, with the pedal all the way down it could be at 50% volume).

I LOVE my Dispatch Master. I'm still getting used to the delay time knob (coming from tap-tempo digital delays), but it sounds amazing. EQD is releasing the Afterneath reverb soon, which might be worth looking into, but it doesn't have delay.

I own both a Zoom 50G and a 60B. There are several types of delays on those and they are awesome. Sound very good and each have a different variety. Theres a few reverbs as well and havent really messed with those too much to give an opinion but they seem to serve there purpose from the little I messed with them. I know you mentioned the 70CDR but wasn't that one more modulation set like choruses, phasers, flangers, etc etc? Not sure if that would serve you well for what your looking for as far as reverbs and delays. I also throw in looking at a older Boss RV-3. Its the only pedal they made that had reverb and delay integrated and 3 of the settings actually combined both into the individual setting. Very cool pedal, but somewhat rare and sometimes easily go for over $100. But you could get lucky.

so no tone loss? i briefly used an ernie ball, it was awful. just a wet blanket on my sound.

i see this could be used as a volume or expression. could it be wired for both simultaneously or am i asking too much of one pedal?
