Ambient/Post-Rock/Textural bass playing thread

27767866[/URL], member: 37282"]Well, I'd suggest starting with the Hall algorithm. As for which pedal, you would need what's now called the H9 or used to be called a H9 Max. Do not get a H9 core (because I think those only work with Maxes now). There was one for sale for like $325 in the classifieds.

I've been mulling over upgrading my analog-to-digital setup in my music area. Right now, my Eurorack provides my analog-to-digital and I've got a very old MOTU 828 mk2 for extra analog-to-digital for my hardware synths.

But I want to be able to put away the Euro when I'm focusing on other things. I am considering:

cheap route: MOTU LP32, which is just ADAT to USB, then I keep using the stuff I have
but
almost exactly same price: MOTU Ultralite Mk5, which is class compliant, works well with iPad and is portable. My old RME interface, which is what I have at my desk, does class compliant but not well. Was a bit of a PITA when I was on the road.

Either of these effectively allow me to reverse what I do now: plug in my iPad to the interface, and then if I want Eurorack, bring that in via ADAT. If I want a bunch of fx pedals for my other synths, I can do that.

More expensive route: used MOTU 16a, where I could use a patch bay and have 16 analog ins PLUS a ton of ADAT. Hook that up to a TRS patch bay and I've got a veritable hardware brain. But it's about twice the price and considerably more space. Way more flexibility though.

This isn't about specific interfaces, so much as setting up my space. Any thoughts?
Funny yesterday I had a boxing match with my set up.
Lost by 3d round knockout.
Non stop noise in “monitor” out from my DAW to the secondary out on my mixer.
But not a cool hipster “tape warble hiss” type……
Something is picking up 60 cycle hum big time……what who the efffff knows could be anything

imo something’s broken.

You do better against the wall?

Perfect Circuit sale is on. Man. Labor Day sales everywhere. No. More. Gear. No. More. Plugins.

Okay. One more distortion pedal.

The problem is probably inside the wall, my house has a big hum anywhere you try to plug in.
But for one reason completely unknown to me, my old crappy mixer eliminates said hum when playing bass through it.
Why, I have noooooooo idea I’ve tried everything since I’ve moved there 10 years ago.
Every other mixer picks up noise big time.

In hindsight I think the hum on the monitor return might be from the usb cord from computer to interface, it has had issues before……..

Noise trouble shooting can make anyone go mad, you have to know when to quit because short of rewiring the entire house the hum is there for good

The Arturia V Collection was on sale so o grabbed it yesterday. Really good, though I’m not a big soft synth person. My thinking is to use it to make loops for the samplers to start tunes, or to add it to finished tracks where something seems to be missing. It has virtual versions of a lot of famous synths like CS80, DX7 (which is shockingly good), MS20, Jupiter 8, TB303, Buchla Easel…like 34 different synths and after a few hours of goofing around with it I think I highly recommend it :)
Still gotta learn the ins and outs of em all, but they sure do sound good

Looks like quite the collection. I’d have grabbed it a few years back but I’m trying to work with everything I’ve got now and get a better workflow before I add instruments. The v303 might be nice enough to scratch the shopping itch without going wild.

I got the Arturia Collection awhile back. I’m not a big softsynth person but it taught me a lot about different synth architectures and approaches.

My favourite softsynths are still ID700 (on the iPad, where I don’t actually use it) and the Madrona Labs synths. Should have mentioned their 30% off sale for August…in August.

That would’ve been helpful :)

The model D Moog app on iPad is the one I use most.

I also often sample synths I like on records and use those in Live, Koala or SP

I don’t even own a hardware anymore.
Unless the Lyra counts, I keep it for it’s uniqueness and personality. It’s still really cool to play and practice.

But only true masters like Hainbach can play that synth and make it sound so magical and get praise from the interwebs.
/end me and **#+#}{|£ that guy

Finally got some time with the array. I fixed a problem I was having on the Super 6 and went back to their tamer waveforms, which I find distort in more interesting ways.

Also posted a couple experiments I've been doing with the fugue form.

This is with the Perfourmer, pretty straightforward. Really like the bits of filter FM though. That could be useful.

This one was done in July with ID700 and apart from going a little too hard on the distorted reverb, I think this might be the way for the next thing. This involves crossfading between two instances.
