Watching this tonight. Alice Cooper talking about Iggy Pop. Andy Warhol. Drag performers. The preview showed footage of Suicide performing so I’m waiting patiently.
…and I just found out KISS is down the street at the Hollywood Bowl tonight and at least one of my friends is there.
The stars may be aligning - had an idea for an ambient electronic KISS cover - and tomorrow might try and trade in a couple of things at one of my local GC's to trade for a Moog Grandmother that's been sitting there for quite a while to help make it happen!

So I did manage to get in to GC and check out the Grandmother they have had there. Place wasn't crowded at all, but the one guy in the pro sound area was busy with a customer. Not a problem, except the Grandmother didn't have a power supply, so I couldn't check it out. Finally another salesperson came in, and we got to work. Hmm, it's not in the system at all! He's off to check for the box in the back, maybe it's in there? Nope! No box, no power supply. OK, he's gonna try a Yamaha power supply - it powers up (good thing he didn't fry it!) but the outlet is wonky, so we move down to plug into a different outlet, and I try it out with headphones. Fortunately I can find my way around a Moog synth pretty well, so I'm up and running and - filter cutoff is scratchy! Like, really bad. Gee, it's only one of the most important knobs the way I use a Moog synth. I really don't want a faulty synth - heck, maybe that's why it's sitting here in the first place! I was kind of hoping that it had sat there unused for a while, but there are too many red flags for me. So no Grandmother yet...
I still have my girlfriend's Minimoog Voyager in my music room and I am a long way from learning how it all works, even with the instruction manual. It is a "big boy" synth for sure.
I think Moogs are amazing - when they work! Actually, I have had older Moog synths get kind of wonky, but I could still work with them. I don't want a "new" one to be like that (they are selling it as new, but I have a feeling it's a return...)
It's freaking GC, they pull crap like that. No orignal box, no power cable, no instruction manual, etc.
I bought my Vox Night Train tube head at GC, was a floor model on clearance so I got a discount. Supposed to come with a carrying case, power cord, etc., and they couldn't find any of it. I asked them WT_F they did with that stuff, it's got to be in the stock room right? I think they toss it in the trash or maybe even hock it on craigslist or something. The scrounged to find me a decent power cord and speaker cable and I took the discount. In the end it worked out, I use the amp all the time so it was worth it, but you gotta watch out for those guys. I think you made the right decision to pass on the Moog, those aren't particularly hard to find (yet, at least) and a better one should pop up.
…and conversely, enough abysmal stuff with the human voice that they’ve earned their own special place in Music Hell.

Yeah, as the situation developed, I flashed on an experience I had over 20 years ago buying something - I can't remember what - it was sold as new but once I got it home, obviously opened and returned - hadn't thought about that in years! The recent trip to GC actually wasn't a bad experience. I also got to behold the box-o-wall-warts - that thing was heavy! I dug through, all kinds of stuff in there, but no Moog power supply...
Ahahaha! I'm a huge Rush fan, Geddy's voice never bothered me, or if it did I learned to like it. The stuff I liked the least was in the much later years when he sang the old high stuff. Geddy's solo album from 2000 has three songs that to me are some of his best work song-wise (the last three on the album, Slipping, Still, and Grace to Grace)
i liked three of rush's albs. and geddy doesn't sound so bad on them . . .
I'm a giant Rush dork so let's just drop the Rush talk now before more bad things are said about them and I have to go find another thread full of nerds where I can be comfortable.
Speaking of Rush and KISS - I just found out that "I think I'm Going Bald" was a response to "Goin' Blind"
“We were touring a lot with Kiss in those days and they had a song called ‘I Think I’m Going Blind.’ So we were kind of taking the piss out of that title by just coming up with this,” Geddy Lee explained. Lee also shared that Alex Lifeson was paranoid about losing his hair at the time and was using “all kinds of ingredients to put on his scalp. And I think it just got Neil thinking about ageing.”

Thought this was interesting, as he goes into detail about the sound design on his synth gear.
Synth math. I saved money and rack space by not buying a new module today because I realized I could just route audio to my Zoia pedal then back into the rack. I knew having two Zoias would come in handy
