Fortunately I have a recording from then - the "earth bass" (borrowing Magma's terminology) was my 4001, the "air bass" parts (2 overdubbed) were the Alembic:



I also have two Bass VI-style instruments - my 1996 MIJ Bass VI reissue, and one neck of my Alembic doubleneck originated that way, but was converted to a higher tuning (A-A) but I couldn't handle it so I returned it to Bass VI tuning. And actually, I have a recording of it from soon after I acquired it in 2006 - just the fretless neck first, then the (then) baritone neck comes in (a little before the 2:00 mark, again with two takes overdubbed):

OK - I'll share more - apparently a wave of "still made in the USA" Moog stuff shipped out, and a Grandmother Dark was in the shipment - I want to get one of those eventually - could this be the one?

It's not a burning need or even desire - but it's something I know I could utilize - I need to dig deeper into the Hydrasynth I got this year - not doing what I want to be with it - looking forward to gear explorations in 2024!

Oh yeah, I did end up getting the lowest tier Sadowsky 5-string - long story still in progress! Hope to update in the New Year...

Hope everyone has a good holiday season - not necessarily easy but maybe if we stay focused on gear we can get through it...

Grandma is a lovely synth, I got along great with it instantly when I tried it at Knobcon. If I had more studio space I'd own one.

That sentence reminded me: For a very brief time in the early 1980s my "bass" was a modified Gibson EB-0 that my roommate loaned me. He had converted it to a piccolo bass (new Badass bridge and brass nut, plus D'Addario's off-the-shelf set of piccolo bass strings, plus a new DiMarzio Model 1 pickup) but then he'd also modified the electronics so there was an instrument-level effects loop built in that connected to a 5-pin XLR harness which went out to a Musitronics MuTron Octave pedal. So it was either a sorta-synthy bass, or a piccolo bass, all at the tap of a footswitch.

Of course, it sucked at both...

@dukeorock So sorry to hear about your girlfriend, hope she heals quickly and completely.
As an avid recreational cyclist I feel especially connected to folks who are injured in cycling or E-cycling "accidents" ...which, depending on who/what else was involved are often just as likely "incidents" rather than "accidents".
My body seems to have fully recovered from my last incident, back in July, but my (non-E) bike is still being repaired/repainted. Some clown on a gasoline-powered standup motor scooter decided he didn't need to be concerned with what lane he was in on a major bridge crossing, and so collided head-on with me. :angryface:
Be careful out there y'alls.

this is amazing.

speaking of amazing... I spent some more time getting familiar with the Erica Stereo Reverb and Delay v2. The reverb is just fantastic. The Delay is quite nice too. I ran my new mutant piccolo bass thing into rack and played around for a while yesterday and had a blast.

yep. that’s the third alb i was on.

i haven’t listened to it for 40+ years, but recall it’s not that good. the guitar sound is terrible, as they decided to take a di off the speaker out (or something like that).

i turned 21 during the stand. the highlight was me standing there and opening my eyes to see chaka khan and natalie cole (and they were serious goddesses back then) standing right in front of me singing backup, which was quite the sight for a 21-year-old male with a fair amount of testosterone flowing. :drool:

Broken shoulder, kneecap and leg. All on the left side. Very frustrating for her so I’m doing my best to help out with day to day chores.

I have 3 video synths made by C&G, very cool toys. I haven't bought any of their instruments, mainly because I don't need any and don't want to take the time to learn yet another set of control functions, but I admire them from a distance.

I will purchase their Eysee (sic) video synth at some point, most likely. I like their build quality in general.

Had one. Sold it. It was a one trick tone sweetener. It’s relatively subtle and fine but not magical. It’s a little gritty and that depends on how hard you push it with the incoming signal. The YouTube demos of it are pretty spot on.

For cheap enough it might be worth a test, assuming you can flip it.
