Damo Suzuki passed away the other day - I listened to CAN a LOT for a few years in the 2000s, even got to see Damo perform twice in 2002. I wrote a tribute/reflection if you are interested:

Oh wow, that sucks. Can was one of those bands I never knew about growing up, along with some of those other krautrock bands that never got big on US radio. Honestly, joining TalkBass sent me down a few rabbit holes in the last decade or so.

I’m just using what I have, but it makes me want to turn my case into a full on fx case. I have BoredBrain guitar/bass pre in there. I split the output to two different paths. One path goes into an Instruo Arbhar, L-1 Dual Dicreet filter, then Mimeophon. The other path goes to a Data Bender, ThreeTom MS-20 filter and FX Aid. I use Just Friends and OCHD to modulate various stuff. The outputs of the rack go into my Octatrack, where I can add additional fx and sample chunks of the playing. Only current downside is I don’t have a midi to cv converter to clock the rack, but it still sounds kinda cool. Playing one tune tonight where I sampled some of that and wrote a tune around it, but I’m not quite ready to do it fully live yet. I have practiced playing through the rack and once it starts cycling, go to the machines and start building up rhythms and whatnot from scratch. I think that could be more fun to watch than me just pushing buttons and twisting knobs on the machines.
I have high hopes that the soon to be released Torso S-4 could do what the eurorack does and then some. We’ll see. I’ll admit I’m keeping it pretty simple. Just a simple minor or Dorian thing. My brain ain’t ready for key changes with all that stuff swirling around

That’s the module! It’s not bad at all
Sometimes the simpler stuff is the most popular, especially if it grooves. I guess the average listener finds it easier to connect with.
I've been on a big Rival Consoles kick lately and am always stuck by how he just uses basic rock chord progressions and harmonies. Sometimes stuff just works.
Never heard of Rival Consoles, recommend listening?
Been back on my hip hop roots for a while, my beats still suck serious @$$

Im of two minds about it. I don’t mind ‘simple’ at all. In fact, I prefer it when it works. I just need to make sure I’m still getting something out of it, which I kinda am. Mainly learning to perform electronic stuff live better
I like almost all of it (except for the track “I Like”), so I’ll recommend Overflow. YMMV, etc.

Hey peeps... I have emerged from the wilderness. Had my first solo synth performance last weekend, which had me up till about 2am for 4 weeks straight in preparation. It was one of those SynthFest things I did with my duo back before COVID. My former duo partner played it too, and did a great set, as well. I started off with one of my drone pieces, one from the upcoming album. It took a lot of prep, as I recorded it with more tracks than I had synths or hands for. I ended up sampling one of the tracks and played it back with the other stuff, I sequenced two others and then played over it by tweaking the Hydrasynth and the Iridium.
The other two tracks, I went out of my comfort zone (beats). Did one that was kind of psybient and one that was kind of funky. My solo sucked ass on the funky one, so I'm not going to do that kind of stuff anymore. Gotta stay in my lane.
Also, bought a Minifreak, and am absolutely loving it. It does way more and sounds way better than a 599 synth should, and has an awesome and versatile step sequencer, too.
I still desperately need to fill that gaping void on the pedalboard. Got rid of the Hologram Microcosm, which, to me at least, after hours of playing with it, is still just an overpriced smear/glitch machine. I desperately need some new sounds.
In non-weird bass news, I now have a Fender Rhodes trio that sounds amazing, real 1973 vibe that I'm diggin'. So it's been a great few months musicwise.
