I have not. This is my first listen to any of the music. I just know Sun Ra is a legend so I’m doing a little exploring.
Wait til you get to the Stockhausen stuff phase with invented language.

I got into Sun Ra partly because of this album - it's a blend of the spoken word (Enlightenment), "free jazz" (Shadow World), and synth space-out (The Cosmic Explorer). I got the LP for free from my hometown library when I worked there (they were giving it away, I didn't steal it honest!)
Later on, I found a CD version in 2 volumes - the LP seemed to be excerpted from the larger bunch of material - then I found a single 2 CD version that was different! Here is Vol. 2 which has one of my favorite tracks, "Spontaneous Simplicity":

Sun Ra's discography is vast and probably has more variety than any other artist. It took me a while to get into his stuff. Go see the Arkestra if they come around.

Actually, as weird as it is, it’s fairly fascinating to watch even though I haven’t heard any music I connect with.
I grew up just outside of Philly and moved to the city in the 80's after college. I got to see Sun Ra and the Arkestra play many times. The gateway for me was the live shows. The balance between normalish big band jazz and free jazz cacophony was magical in a live setting with that many players on the stage. They were tighter than tight. Ra would raise a hand and when it dropped the music fell right back into place on the beat every time no matter what they were playing. My all time favorite live number was a long drawn out Somewhere Over the Rainbow that ventured off into deep space and back. It was magic. I was hooked for life.

So after reading all that I’m going to go from using 8% of what it can do to 5% by my calculations.

honestly that’s probably true of most stuff used by most people on this thread.
That’s why we need to buy so much stuff. If we use 5% of a thing then we need two things to do 10% and three for 15%. So if you want to give 110% to a project then you need 22 things.
I'm really trying hard to not do this. Just got rid of my Roland TR8S, as I've had it for 3 years and probably used it 10 times. Mostly because I suck at drum programming, but I also thought, well, I have an MPC live, which is made for beatmaking. Better to just learn how to do that. I really don't want to hold on to something that takes up space that just ain't getting used.
Another video from my solo show last week. This one's not my typical thing, more of a psybient mellow groove. Got the vocal samples from some late 60's documentary on synths.
Damn that’s a lot of hardware to lug to a gig.

Oh, that won't always be the case. My 'usual thing' is great at synth meetups, but would clear a bar pretty quick. I plan on doing more of this kind of stuff, esp if I plan on playing out. Thanks.Great stuff! Shame that's not your typical thing cos it's right up my alley
oh, I do that too. Just made a deal with someone to sell my Super 6, and the Norand Mono is also out the door. I just meant that with the depth and complexity of music tech—even the good old bass guitar—any given person will only use a small portion of its true capability.
OTOH I also subscribe to @monsterthompson ’s plan for 110% effort.
yeah, every now and then, I'll hit up archive.org, find an old documentary, rip off the audio and slice it.
Yeah, it's a lot of stuff to lug around, which is why I'm probably not gonna play out all that much. There's a rapidly growing modular scene in VT, and that's what most of the meetups are, and that ain't me.
