Also, I have been playing my Take 5 a lot but not recording it. Here's my attempt at a Lyra-8-like drone vibe (doesn't quite get to the Lyra's "mating whales" sound though) with tons of different kinds of modulated distortions and feedback inside the synth. This is all stuff that was more or less impossible to accomplish on the Super 6 and is much more in line with what I actually want from an analog(ish) poly synth.

Made me bust out the Lyra first the 1st time on months.
Spent some time making low end drones like on your recording.
One thing is that the Lyra can go places no other instrument can due the the inherent instability of its design.
One millimetre of the delay knobs or switch in either direction can make it go places youd never expect. (for me thats awesome, for others its utter garbage)
Just sharing my little experimenting with the Lyra after you said the drones you did where inspired by it.

Ive practived on it alot, but listening to tLyra tracks no one could actually notice someone who has vs total random knob twisting. Not even me......

I can "sort of" guide it in a direction I want after lots of time on it.

I could maybe make a few low end drones in the near future so you could hear what it does doing that particular task if you’re at all interested.
Because Lyra playing is only valid if your a chick on tik tok in yoga pants or a synthflatulencer on YT

it’s wonderful that we can inspire one another on this thread. Yes to Lyra drones! The Tale 5 has an inherent “stability” which is sort of the Dave Smith thing but it can be made to go places.

Today’s Take 5 exploration was Karplus-Strong with the delays.

My keyboard - noise guy - gets so much out of his Casio CZ (with smaller keys), a Morley volume pedal that overdrives and whatever is in the TC-Vocal processor that he runs the Casio out plus sampling on the go.Check any of the "Charlie" jams ion my sound cloud.

I did finally hooked - up my H90 to my upright bass and bowing that produced some whale song sounds.

I have to admit this looks like a better cheaper version of their more expensive reverbs… if I didn’t have my afterneath as my spooky reverb I’d be in for this…

I have more than enough ambient reverbs, it's basically impossible to get me excited about another one. Besides, any reverb is an ambient reverb if you ambient hard enough.

I still love 'em, but they are definitely overdone and I'm a lot more discriminate in their use than I used to be. I'm also realizing how difficult they can make mixing sometimes. In mixing the album I just finished, I really realized how much those tails (which, in the thick of it, don't really get heard) can really just add a lot of undefined mud to the whole mix.

this morning i was thinking that the glut of ambient reverbs (and maybe shimmer reverbs before that) is not unlike everyone making “the ultimate/best” tube screamer clones 15-20 years ago (or whenever that was).

True. I will say that I'm surprised the shimmer thing still ends up on a lot of those verbs. It was cool, for like a minute, and it's something I never ever use anymore.

My Eventide Blackhole is still my desert island pedal, though.

Well, here is the Lyra Low end "drone" I promised. I dont usually go for long drone type vibes so this was quite the experiment.
If you delve deep into the Lyra functions , keeping it stable is like holding a tiger on a leash.
I could have done an easy drone thing like on YT, those are beyond easy to make and I think no one here wants to hear that.
Is it good, I have no idea, but it was a cool deep listening exercise for sure. Took about an hour worth of takes to get something like this to share. Lots of F*K ups when the thing when b@tshizzle nuts.
Headphones recommended, lots of SUBS

I'm glad I went to the Bandcamp page - the background of this music is really interesting and moving! Question though - if we pre-order on Bandcamp Friday (April 5?) do you get the fees waived?

OK, I'll post a recent drone I made - just Moog Grandmother & Moogerfooger phaser, but started messing with the GM hi-pass filter & reverb in the second half - I think that what sounds like me twisting a frequency knob was actually messing with attack and release. It was liked by 3 repost bots!

I loved it--lots of motion moving up and into the audio range. And it is like a tiger on a leash, if the tiger is on PCP.

Congrats! Preordered. I'm curious what synths you're using on top of all the bass and effects, if any, on those tracks (I am assuming you haven't found a way to synthesize water sounds with a bass and pedals but if so, please do dish).

Loved your drone too. Filter harmonics are the best.

I listened to all the drones at like 4am while waiting for my body to return to a normal temperature (happens to me in the middle of some nights).

Well, regional meetups are possible. Montreal is not that far from Vermont and Quebec City, and Virginia is on our side. Parts of the west coast have already met up. Australia, as usual, is screwed.
