Ambient/Post-Rock/Textural bass playing thread

I am old enough to remember that commercial. Some of my friends had that haircut.
That photo could have been me anytime before about 17, except I was glaringly, blindingly, blond.
More fun with my borrowed Loudest Warning system.
for both, I'm using my Linnstrument to control it. At some point I hit the "fine tune" knob by accident on one of the oscillators so it starts out a little out of tune. Definitely need more room around my tuning knobs.
First one is noodling around and using MPE as a kind of semi-hocketing where different voices play different notes (basically the secret sauce in the Vermona Perfourmer's MIDI setup)
Second one is filter pings through distortion and wave folding.

I'm thinking about changing the wood end panels on some of my synths to improve their tonal characteristics. What tone woods would all of you recommend for this?
I think this fits here, because the ambience is supplied by a field recording I did a few years ago (the crickets) and Valhalla reverb applied afterwards - the recording is mainly from the SM57 seen in the pic.

Thanks for the Bandcamp Friday reminders! I picked a few things up which I listened to while trying to answer emails, grade papers, etc.
I also took delivery of the Chase Bliss Tonal Recall. It's a cool delay - I found stuff in online reviews after I bought it that is turning out to be accurate - full-on oscillation is pretty ugly and out of control volume-wise (similar to the older big RE-20 Space Echo pedal - putting a compressor AFTER helped 100% but that's another pedal to hook up) but I think I came up with an acceptable setting that sounds pretty good for what I'm trying to accomplish. I bet/hope it'll sound good on the Grandmother.
But I also realized - playing the song I got the pedal to be able to play is a pain in the ass! I have realized that before too. I just need to practice lol. Maybe I should have followed @steubig 's advice and worked with the RE-20 I already have but I don't regret it. Still need to experiment with a CV pedal controlling the Feedback ("regen" on the Tonal Recall) - I stuck it on my board and there isn't room for a standard plug, so still stuff I need to work on hardware-wise.

Went to see Gary Numan with Front Line Assembly opening tonight. Lots of electronic bleeps and bloops to be heard. I enjoyed FLA way more than I expected, and I already had pretty high expectations. Numan was a little disappointing. The light show was great, and the songs should’ve translated better but the volume was cranked up and everything went to mud. He actually sounded better as I was leaving the venue 
I was surprised he had a bassist with a P on stage. It almost seemed too conventional.
I find it odd to go to these shows and see guitarists and bassists on stage and not hear guitar or bass sounds for large parts of the set. I’m not sure if they’re using tons of effects to change the sound or if they are using dynamic mixing to bring instruments in/out. Maybe I’m just used to guitars and basses sounding certain ways and I don’t recognize them when they sound different.

When I saw Numan last year I was also disappointed by the sound. I thought his band and their current setup worked fine for his recent stuff like My Name is Ruin, but for his classic hits it just didn't sound right. It's also hard to tell sometimes because the venue was an old theater and the acoustics where we were sitting up on the balcony level may not have been the best compared to, say, the middle front or something.
ETA: about the basses and guitars on stage in an electronic show. A few years back I went to see a show for one of these newer pop bands in the same ballpark with MGMT and so on. We sat through like 3 songs before walking out. The whole thing sounded like a backing track with bad vocals, and the bass player stood in front of a keyboard and never touched his bass once. I don't remember the band name, don't care. But apparently they had a following, so what do I know?

reminds me of the experience seeing Peter Gabriel live for the first time way back in 1986: there were so many parts where I would look at guitarist David Rhodes, and say to myself “holy crap. I had no idea that was a guitar on the recording!” Crazy signal processing/sound design FTW!

Figured out some stuff, so these versions feature:
Midi via Trs mini jack, instead of 5 pin Midi Din, which allows you to directly connect to Zoia with a simple mini trs jack cable. No dongles!
Powered by 9v dc center negative (instead of USB buspower). It needs less than 50mA and now you just slam it on your pedalboard, just like you would with any other pedal.
