Wow the new update is hideous. Animated ads in the middle of threads are a hard no for me. Here’s hoping it’s growing pains and they will fix it. If not, we should consider migrating our thread to somewhere with less crap.

I’ve been a QA tester in my long illustrious career and this thing would definitely not be a release candidate.

The slang in my QA for this type of release was
Broke as $&@$

Main features don’t function are “show stoppers “ and I’ve found a crap load.

I was getting some really obnoxious ads in the middle of everything before too, on my phone. (Obnoxious in both content and intrusiveness.) Which is why I stopped coming here with any browser that isn't running uBlock etc.

After a day of ambient noise, I’m at a backyard party with a Cajun band playing spiced up but straight ahead rock songs. These guys are laying in down.

Hope the Americans here had a decent holiday yesterday. We are on vacation in upstate NY, and headed in to a small town, attended a minor league baseball game, and watched fireworks.

There were some questions about Ableton Live 12 above, I had been trying to do a project in Bitwig but certain things were headscratchers, so I fired up Live. I got everything up and running much faster. I am really liking version 12 so far. Stable and easy to work with. I am not doing things that require latency compensation, though so I don’t have an opinion on that part. My favourite new feature is something that was available forever in Bitwig: you can now turn a knob to set its initial position while automating it with a sequencer, LFO, or envelope,

Worked on a project yesterday and immediately kicked myself for not buying the new interface I was looking at. I wanted to have two headphone outputs and a couple of complex signal routing options. I was able to make it work with my existing devices but it would’ve been easier with a different interface on my watch list.

I went to see Erik Truffaz Quintet for the FEQ yesterday.
Good set, guitar and bass dudes where max 25 yo. Drums and Keys where vets with Truffaz.
Good choice of repertoire, a lot of movie themes. Sort of ascenseur pour l’échafaud version 2024.

Live 12 works well for what little I do with it. No issues at all on my end.

Played video games and did a little exploratory patching yesterday, then went to my parents' place for dinner and to hang out for a while. Didn't go see fireworks but we had thunderstorms later at night. It was a nice day of not working at least.

Today I managed to talk myself into a Djupviks Bunker Archaeology.



I'll probably want to either keep the tremolo more subtle than that or use it in front of the reverb (or a different reverb, or maybe Rings or something) but the reverb itself is pretty tasty.

I really like some of their other stuff too. Got inspired by the Box of Angels (triple bandpass with noise) to try some bandpass stuff with Blades and in software. It wasn't quite the same but took me to some fun places. I may end up clearing out enough space for Sleeper Awakes (super-lo-fi sampler/looper with electromagnetic pickups) if I can find one built somewhere, I'm not going to DIY.

I do want a Kontakt 7 upgrade which is $149 so $200 for Komplete isn’t bad plus it adds a few things I’d like to try like Massive X. I also want to try the latest Guitar Rig which isn’t in the Komplete bundle from what I can see, so I guess I’ll spend over $200 and get that $50 coupon anyway.

Casting no aspersions on NI (fwiw, Guitar Rig was part of Komplete last time I bought it…which was awhile ago) but I have to say that other than updating my DAW I am almost always disappointed with software purchases. I have all the effects I need and a software synth has to be truly special to get me interested. Maybe I am just….satisfied with what I have? I have a couple pieces of abandonware that I wish still worked but otherwise I’m good. I will buy anything released by Valhalla or Madrona, though.

Speaking of which, my daily synth into Ableton sessions are going well and I’m finding it super quick for the small edits I’m doing after takes. I do miss all of Bitwig’s modulators (I suspect they exist in Max4Live somewhere but it’s a lot to dig around for them), But I am just finding Live light and easy to use for this purpose. I’m also using the Torso to control some mixer and FX parameters.

And today I finally found a way to get my Torso T-1 to chillax a little.

To be fair, I started working on music stuff yesterday and decided to buy nothing I had been considering. No software. No hardware. Not a thing. I had the card warmed up and ready and decided to be productive instead of introducing a new variable. Other sales will come and go.
