Ambient/Post-Rock/Textural bass playing thread

OK, even given the situation so far, perhaps not a smart thing to do, but I'd like to post about Keith Jarrett a little bit.

Hearing him as a teenager, the noises didn't make sense so I passed. I think that even hearing it again as a college student/soon after, it didn't hit me. But at some point, it did. I have a Japanese CD that I picked up during grad school there. Did not realize there was a story behind it. This video was my introduction to this story:



I really appreciate the interview parts with Vera Brandes - she was such a key figure in this transcendent musical event.

musical genius and complete @$$hole also.
Love his records but I wish they could edit out his moaning and weird sounds he makes when playing. Nothings worse than his incredible live trio albums ruined by all those noises he makes.

Saw his trio live about 20 years about.
One of the best shows I’ve seen in my life.
Was with the classic Peacock Dejohnette trio.
They played about 1h45 mins

To make a long story short, when they bowed to the applause at the end someone took a flash photo and it set Jarrett off like a tiny Napoleon complex stick of dynamite.
He went off in a tirade against everything and everyone.
Complete D)?k move, peacock and dejohnette where behind him looking at the floor ashamed of what was happening.
They banned him from the MTL jazz fest after that.
Few months later he did the same thing in Italy I believe and also got banned from a few more major venues.

Mingus would be proud of him I guess.

When my friend in high school played it for me, I couldn't get over the vocalizations. I've gotten used to it, maybe even appreciate it (on The Köln Concert at least). But I wonder if you put it through Moises or some kind of AI program if you could remove the vocalizations? That's a hilarious idea. Even better - make music with ONLY the vocalizations!

Maybe that's part of the magic of the Köln Concert - he didn't indulge in his usual diva persona, although he had many opportunities.

The thing I like most about the story is how he worked within the limitations of the beat-up piano. Also how the opening notes are from the opera hall chime - on headphones you can hear some audience members laugh, which affected the performance in a good way.

Yeah, total ******* and a genius, as well. I think that happens a lot.

I've had the privilege of playing with his son Gabe, who is one of the best drummers in Vermont, and probably the best drummer I've ever played with in my life.

In other news, my hometown got utterly wrecked last weekend, due to flooding, one year to the day of the last major one. I'm okay, but it was a stressful weekend, for sure. Was up for 40 hours straight, between trying to get home and then helping others recover and dig out. Between that and the political developments over the weekend, my brain is now a turnip and I'm ready for the coming apocalypse. That Stingray fretless I have coming will probably be one of the few joys in life.

My last album was about last year's big flood. I really don't want to do a Flood, Vol 2.

I am incredibly fortunate. We live up on a small mountain... not much of a flood risk here, but there are three ways down the mountain and all three got washed out, so I couldn't get home and slept (well, tried to sleep) in my car. We're all safe, as are all of my townsfolk, although the losses are heartbreaking and staggering. You see what is lost when you go help clean up.

My friend's basement... I used to give his son bass lessons here. That's about 4 or so feet of mud, and it's a full size pool table to the right, there.

This is what happens when the landlord is a criminal and hides water and humidity damages.
Here are my two late 90s Eden cabs that are good for the landfill and a health hazard.
Guitare cab speaker also beyond repair

All this happened in 10 days

I’m beyond pissed and will sue the fu&:&:&

This morning operation mold clean up with hydrogen peroxide

I have my home insurance that covers it, but we found water damage when we removed the ceiling tiles.
Water damage on my vintage 1972 Ampeg guitare amp head
water damage and mold on speaker cone in my guitare cab.

Negligence and hiding water damage, the crook is gonna pay

2 Eden cabs now health hazards.

Fuk me

Both. It's climate change (I've lived here for almost 30 years and finally bought an AC this summer), and it's development patterns from 150 years ago that the climate has zero concern for, whatsoever. We had a 100 year old concrete bridge come completely undone and took out a huge house, right into the river.

I’ve got some listening to do.

I got good feedback on my latest project submission.

I’m still considering a baritone. I’m also back to needling on bass but now with a capo. I need one with more grip than the version I have and/or a setup/adjustment. Anyone with suggestions for capos, let me knows.

I got a capo made for a 12 string guitar that's worked great. This is the one I got, though I'm sure there are plenty of other good options out there: Kyser Quick-Change 12-String Guitar Capo
