Imagine getting handed those charts on a session and sight reading that stuff, absolute insanity.
I read somewhere that the band thought Giant Steps as a ballad when they first saw the chart.

Currently down a rabbit hole of string selection. I'm working with a Spector Euro and my F Bass collection. I can't quite find the right combo of features I think I want, but I'm enjoying the journey. Black Tapes from La Bella are next on my list for my fretless.

If you're gonna throw a clam, make sure it's bad enough that they can't live with it and force you to redo it.

im “sorta careful” with my instruments but i end up beating them up regardless
imagine if i had wall mounts, i would have lost a few instruments due to them falling to the ground for sure

Ah. I assumed this was more like a Zoia patch sharing community. I didn’t realize there was a full market for presets, or what they cost. I just googled this and can understand the “expensive” position. I think if someone is sound designing a preset then they could reasonably expect to be compensated for the effort. The question is - how much is reasonable to charge?
Those are pretty cool bass presets, and comparable price-wise to some of the other popular preset packs (like those sold by Janek Gwizdala or Ian Martin Allison for example). The Stomp is a powerful device, and capable of lots of unique textural stuff like this- in fact that's 99% of what I use mine for. I still prefer external analog pedals for my basic tone, though I love the fact that I could use nothing but the Stomp in a pinch (it would take me some time to tweak new presets for that though!!). He lists the basics of the building blocks he used for these in the video, so if you are patient and decent at sound design you could recreate something similar (or better) if you invested a little time (though at this pricepoint I'd be inclined to just buy them if I were looking for those sounds- seeing the way other people approach preset building can be a valuable learning tool for a Stomp!). I haven't personally bought presets for my Stomp, but am not opposed to the idea- especially considering most of the guys selling them are trying to make a living from music in some form, and I respect the hustle that requires these days. There are some free Stomp presets to be found out there, but AFAIK there aren't a lot of freebies from pros!

The new Moog though... from the feature set it reminds me of the 9 year old Minibrute 2S... except that one cost about half as much (new) and has 48 patch points instead of 6. I seem to recall I got my used one for $250.
That Korg Phase 8 that they've showed the last couple of years seemed like it had potential, but I'm starting to feel like it's basically a kalimba with a sequencer. I was hoping for drones, resonator stuff, electromagnetic manipulation of harmonics, etc.
As far as the pre-show new stuff, I grabbed a Make Noise Jumbler, and it's great. That is probably going to be the only new thing for me out of this cycle though. I just saw photos of the Polimaths and I'm curious what they're doing with it, but I expect it's something I don't need.
