Ambient/Post-Rock/Textural bass playing thread

Sold a bunch of stuff recently. Nothing wrong with any of it, but I wasn’t using it and it didn’t make sense to keep it sitting around. Now I’ve noticed some pedals that may have to go. Want to put my pedalboard back together but I’m just not into the pedals I have at the moment. The Specular Tempus and Volt Thrower will likely stay, but that’s likely it. The CT5 May stay, but not on the board. Sometimes I get lucky with it and sometimes I don’t.
Not sure why, but I’ve never been over the moon about any pedal I’ve ever owned. Always get bored of em fast

my vote too! Now I just gotta find something I won’t get bored with so quickly! For a few months my favorite bass effects have been my eurorack effects.

You guys are light years from what I have funds for....I was looking at a boss dd3 to add to the "noise station" for the band's sound manipulation.



I'm thinking of a good low bidget rig for noise with solid boss classics....

The keeley delay sounds insane cool!!!
You guys get one, sk I can hear it used in real life.

That and I think the one pedal that made me think oh^@^#&@*$*#.....was the chase bliss mood......now that one looks beyond cool

Hey. I’m not buying everything I post

I do like seeing what features companies are combining. I’m assuming there’s a market demand or artistic reason they decided to build certain products. Seeing that makes me think about what I can already do with what I have. I find it inspiring to watch demos showing why certain features are of interest.

I also have a day job and a lifestyle that lets me buy toys without too much concern. I find myself limiting my choices because I don’t want one more cable or power supply or whatever. At some point I end up patching and organizing more than playing and producing.

That's exactly why I like simple stuff. Whe you get an idea, patching 5 machines and setting up midi control is not the time.

Yet again....im not jealous or anything about the ability to get gear. I get by fine.
Went through school with one bass....its all good. Im even happy for those who have the opportunity.

Its not like im on the street or anything. Remember the guy who bought 3 JMT synths.....

Boredbrain Terminal ordered.

Almost pulled the trigger on a used Eventide Powermax... then I realized the reason they are $30 cheaper than the Cioks when new is because of the included cables. The Eventide has fewer "generic" cables, but includes Eventide specific ones. Okay. Holding off for a moment on the power supply.

I did buy a book of bass exercises suggested by @ugly_bassplayer in another thread. Half Mel Bay, half eBay

That book is insane. From beginner to pro everyone can benefit.

Never met or heard of anybody going through the whole thing....it gets crazy hard in some sections.

But when I was heavy into practicing that book (4 hours a day on a total of 8 hours on bass) my "chops" where the best I've ever gotten them. Now.....im still amazed at what I use to be able to play....

I have Bass Aerobics but the easy moves are still too hard for my gimpy left hand to execute. The stretches get too big too fast. Hoping this has some shorter reach exercises.

If you want any tips or suggestions hit me up. Id be more than happy. Ill go dig up my book, its beat to !^#^#^ full of pencil notes.
If a metronome gets boring I used to put on a record I liked and played the exercises along to it. (Rhythm exercises can also be applied here....half time, double time, 2 against 3 ,sextuplets. 16th note displacement.....it can go very deep )
I picked exercises from different sections and definitely have some favorites i still use to this day to warm up.

Couldn't find my bass fitness book
.....maybe I subconsciously hid it as to never find it again or it finally decided it had enough and decided to end itself. (Ill find...its here somewhere)

Found this that fell out of my old omnibook. Brings back memories and night sweats all at the same time.

Hey reminds me of the stuff I got too... I bought Sean Malone’s Mel bay bass theory book and thought that was pretty easy and awesome so upgraded to alex Webster of cannibal corpse fame extreme metal exercises... basically my left hand is insanely slow and I still can’t use three fingers ( I think my fingers are too odd in length to do it fast) and can play faster with two fingers... but that’s probably cos I started in a thrash metal band with a drummer that used to do insane double kick and try and keep up...

Now I prefer to play laid back and do root / simple runs / try and add effects more and be different that way. I think I’ve forgotten more theory than I’ve ever learnt *woops!*

3 finger right hand imo is wayyyyy over rated. Beyond difficult to get a regular tone out of the 3 plucking fingers.

Other than Gary Willis I've never heard anyone use that technique to great effect.

My 2 cents.....sure Webster from cannibal corpse is lightning fast....but he still is buried under a ^#^##^# ton of guitars......

I use a pick if I wanna go that fast. Cuz I suck.
