Agreed. Hard to tell context on the internet...and sadly TB can be a judgey place...so as any good social justice warrior would do, I had to drop a reminder of the cardinal rule to not be a douche .

Funny I tend to stick to the effects section where it seems less judgemental... combination of always / sometimes/never gig people... just gets occasionally boring with the “what’s the best overdrive” thread every month with infinite opinions...
have to admit the only one that gets my ego is I like showing my pedalboard every now and again though with not playing live and having 4 kids that isn’t changing much hah!

Did some more experiments with the "no input mixer". It's really cool and the unpredictability is awesome.

I basically stacked about 15 to 20 layers into my ditto looper and then added my JMT drone synth over the ditto.

Sorry lordradish...more ear splitting randomness. Im sure you could play the Coltrane matrix over it though
......maybe some transcription of an David S Ware solo....(i gotta sample his stuff...note to self)

Here's the loop/trainwreck. Ill use it for the band's new set of songs. Our loops are further manipulated live.....so
......enjoy.....or run to the bomb shelter and avoid it at all cost. At least I got some work music wise done. Forward we go....

i’d go half on that cause i want everyone to have space.

I'd go double that, and then force everyone to have space...until the uber-brown density is called for. And then I'd force them to Make Some Brown.
I'm a huge fan of large ensembles, and as a composer/arranger feel drawn to the wealth of colors they offer. But yeah, finding cats that know when to shut up, without having to be explicitly told, is a serious needle-in-a-haystack task.

I EFFING LOVE FRETLESS.

Same here. But it's weird, my fretless playing seems to go in these vast waves: Sometime in the mid-1990s I realized my fretless bass wasn't getting much use, so I bought a double gigbag and started bring a fretted and fretless bass to every gig and every rehearsal...and within ~3 months I was playing fretless on 50% of the music I was making. Then in the early 2000s it went a bit unused, but from '07-'10 I was playing nearly 100% fretless. And then these past ~3 years the fretless basses have been getting zero use. (For a year or two circa 2016 I was playing almost 100% fretted 8-string bass!)

It's funny, I feel like the more abstract, stompbox-enhanced music I've been playing lately would be enhanced considerably if I were playing fretless...but most of my work now is on 6-string bass, and my two fretlesses are 5-strings (one w/ low B, one w/ high C) and I can't quite convince myself that the music can give up either of those range extensions.

I also can't quite convince myself that I should get a 6-string fretless

Most of my stompbox stuff is on the 6 for that same reason. I generally only use the fretless with the board when I break out the ebow. I like to play a lot of high chords on the 6 for textural washes.

Over the years, I've done the same thing with fretless... comes out for a period, goes away for a period. To put that cycle on hold, I decided to use it exclusively with one of the projects I'm in.

I've thought about a 6 string fretless but I really like the precision that frets give me in the upper register.

I was talking Coltrane matrix as a joke, but the last song on our album on bandcamp has the bass line looping over the changes to Giant Steps. Plus noise manipulation and “spoken yellling” in French, quite a mix. The drums are choppy\sloppy J Dilla feel.

Hope Trane wouldn’t be to mad I butchered his thing.

i pretty much take a fretted/fretless pair of 6-strings to every gig i do.

in terms of chords in the higher positions: practice makes almost tolerable.

Spent last night organizing pedals. Spending today organizing DAW files. Not musical, but less clutter leads to more production.

I think I will break down and grab a Cioks DC7 or the cheaper Eventide twin. I’m also looking at a Boredbrain Terminal for no good reason. I think my Patchulator has me covered but I still want it.

Also looking at crossover distortion units to free up my Transmutron from dirty/clean allocation and set it to work on time and modulation tasks.

Go for it. Sure beats organising files on the computer. But why another patchbay if the one you have is ok?

I definitely think souncards are by far the worst things to buy. 3o secs after you purchase it boom.....new drivers...boom...not supported on OS....grumpy rant over
