One thing I might add to this conversation is that I tend more and more to "commit" to a decision and go forward instead of constantly changing and tweaking a single thing ad vitam aeternam.

Never was like that in the first place, but lve been more "confident" in my choices always going forward.....to put it another way. Embracing the "imperfect".....

Crank's stuff is great, you'll have a lot of fun!
I regularly use his Town&Mouth for broken vocals and should use his waterproof contact mic more often! Here's a bit where I make bubbles with a straw (and add some delay 'n stuff).

I wonder with all these really sophisticated effects and pieces of gear we have now if any of them will stand the test of time the way some of the older, simpler pedals have. It seems like there are so many of these things and they all have such steep learning curves, some need firmware updates or computer connections to fully utilize, etc.

Not that it concerns me; I'm having fun with this stuff now and plan to keep doing so for quite a while.

Yeah. I've wondered similar things. A lot of the do-it-all pedals don't have an identifiable signature sound.

hi folks. I'm writing to tap into the collective wisdom in this thread. The only musician I can practice with right now is my wife, who is (extremely conveniently) also my drummer, so we have formed a duo. This gives me a lot of room to experiment with weird textures and the like. I've been having a blast exploring hitherto undiscovered (by me) corners of my Eventide H9. I'd really like to get one more spacey pedal to complement it. Since the H9 is edited with an app, maybe something that's done entirely on the pedal or at least doesn't require a software editor. The Meris Polymoon has my attention. Maybe an EQD Afterneath (yes the H9 can cop that sound, but then it can do other things). Other ideas? Bonus if it plays well with distortion. What I really want is a hardware version of the Ghost Mode on ValhallaDelay, complete with diffusion, but that does not exist.

Anyway, something that complements the Eventide sound is probably what I want, but controllable. I really want a Chase Bliss Mood but we are writing actual songs, so it needs to be controllable.

Oh, and I'm playing an 8-string instrument tuned in 5ths, so I can go from the low B of bass to high D on a guitar....

Any budget or size constraints?
Empress Zoia has a lot to offer but requires you to build it, or time sorting though PatchStorage.com It has expression pedal control and only one knob. It has a Ghost Reverb but I'm not sure how it compares.

Empress Echo and Reverb each have some several good sounds, with multiple reverb and delay engines. They can each function as loopers, with the loop pre or post effects.

Poly Digit was mentioned a few pages back. It's a bit more conventional than the Zoia, and a little cheaper.

This is pretty cool


The Erica Synths Zen Delay is pretty interesting.

The other regulars will have some fun ideas.

Define "controllable". I wouldn't call the MOOD uncontrollable, I'd just concede that it has a steep learning curve, and may be possibly limited by only (2) preset memory slots. If I had to recreate a bunch of different MOOD patches from scratch I wouldn't view the task as impossible, simply a challenge. It would probably involve a Sharpie, or some adhesive stickers.

re the fancy do-it-all or ultra-specific pedals:

i’m personally wary of pedals that do their thing and don’t leave a lot of control in my hands.

my mo with pedals is to use them as building blocks for combinations of colors. so i go for the more normal pedals that can get insane and that i can bend to my will, er control through expression pedals, etc., on the fly. i want to be able to change things in the moment.

basically i don’t want to pedal playing me or dictating *too much* of what i’m doing, i want to be in charge. (yeah, i’m germanic.)
