Ambient/Post-Rock/Textural bass playing thread

they aren’t all a once.

thanks
Not all at once.... 4 basses per limb....
Drumsticks up the nose for percussion effect on one bass????
Amateur!!!
;)

Half way through....i dig the textures and reverse type "thingy"........
Ebow drone???

Nice job.

Edit:
After one listen;
Really dig the 9:07 till end vibe
Kinda of a come back of the "theme from 3:00 to 3:30." Nice fat "swells". Dark mood.

thanks for listening.

4 *tracks* per limb.
no ebow action.
one gimmick i use is to record a pass of something (here a 12-string pattern, some 12-string harmonics and also a hydra thing) and have it panned hard in one direction and have its reverse panned in other direction. texture . . .

swells = bass through elements with low eq plus volume pedal swells. sometimes doubled with a reverse of low notes decaying.

i use form. here it's basically (with a few transition bits borrow from other sections):
a-b-c-b'-a'-d-e-d'-c-b''-a''-c' (coda)

screen grab of the bass parts:

tmi . . .

oh yeah, no drumstick up the nose.

I'll have to try that hard pan reverse thing.
Very cool.
Any phase issues using that??

maybe? i like the sound and it's usually texture/background, not the star. . .

what happens though is that the notes don't really align all the time, as the rests get flip-flopped

0-0-000-0--
reversed is
--0-000-0-0

so against each
0-0-000-0--
--0-000-0-0

i think even drones with motion against each other zig and zag differently.

That was the fastest shipping turn-around ever! Was supposed to be here Friday, but I'll take! The end of the workday can't come soon enough...

HERE:

Gorgeous in person, little heavier than I expected. SUPER PSYCHED!!!

hell yeah!

it is heavier.

i would go to the systems page and recalibrate the wheels and ribbon before you start. also do a factory refresh (or whatever it’s called).

tip: if want to use the mod and pitch wheels as modulation sources in the matrix, you can turn their normal functions off in the voice section.

congrats. hope it works for you.

p.s. i think it’s one of the best synth manuals i’ve read (so rtfm ;) )

I'm a RTFM kinda guy so I'll def be flipping through it as soon as 5pm hits. Will probably fire up some of those massive demos on it and turn it on and try to figure it out. Damn real world responsibilities always getting in my way.

this is what i've been working on for a while (somewhat concurrently with that all-hydrasynth thing i did).

went from liking it to hating it to working out some of the things i disliked—we'll see how i feel tomorrow. it is a bit long . . . maybe listen to it when you're washing dishes! (headphones could be cool.)

16 tracks of 12-string basses (8 each fretted/fretless); 14 tracks of hydrasynth.

90% of the effects are live, either from the boss 500 pedals or my dr. scientist the elements; the hydra has its own effects. the non-live stuff is an ableton reverb and delay, and a few tracks that are put into reverse. tmi?

it's kind of odd?

I liked this, very cinematic

That change around 4:55 is short but sweet.
