Ambient/Post-Rock/Textural bass playing thread

Other than Elements?

i've had a bunch. some i still have, but don't use at all (some i need to sell). i like the smallsound bigsound mini, but mostly cause it does something that reminds me a of a fender showman preamp and it can also do an interesting treble boost.

i've settled on the elements until something else is better and gives a similar functionality: exp for blend and good eq.

if boss did an od-500, i'd give it serious consideration if it had the same architecture as the other 500s (the od-200 seems to have exp control over effect volume, but not a blend—massive fail imo). i'd love to have one dist/od sound going while being able to punch in another channel via a tapped momentary switch.

The Mini is amazing. I just got one.

I still wonder how the boss od-200 sounds on the bass....???
Anyone here try it?

For what it’s worth, I’ve tend to found clean blends that have been rolled off and only like “a touch” just to get the full bottom end... maybe it’s been lucky but haven’t had that Ye olde two signals thing with any of mine... that and I find the sonic generator And mbd1 can add low emphasis or a lot of treble if you like that but I hate treble frequencies... I’d never try it but with their volume range and tone range I’m sure could get a massive db at really low hz going speaker bang! I’ve never gone past 10 with the volume on the mbd1 and about 8 on the sonic generator... both a hair above unity. Fully CCW and I’m not sure if it would be ears or speakers popping first hah!

So who did what?

he did the cool stuff. :)

ugly supplied a jmy synth track. i gave it a listen, then got bogged down with real life. weeks later i did a pass with electric bass and pedals. i used my live panning stereo setup.

first piece (in order of recording): his drony stuff starts things off, i come in with a small looped thing on the ct5 into charlie foxtrot and then do a bunch of fuzz and other noise and do small loops of that on the boomerang three. then i pull the loops in and out.

second piece: i sent him a thing of me putting stuff in the strings (see my avatar for what i mean), plus other stuff.

this is one of those things where i'm using the three different elements with exp pedals and different eq curves to create different textures.

clear as mud?

my setup for this.

So who did what?
On the one I sent him its just one jmt synth track.

In the one he sent me I played a jmt synth and contact mic sounds\percussion.
(Items used: a metal file, pliars, a can of sparkling water, paper clips and a truss rod tool....)

Then I mixed everything in Ableton.
Only EQ and reverb where added in the daw.
I adjusted the levels and did a pseudo mastering.
(EQ'ing was to make space for each part as much as possible)
