I’d suggest going in order as they were released. There’s an intent to the order and I think it helps paint the picture the hosts want you to see. It’s not necessary, but I like the effect.

too young to be a hippie and too old to be a punk.
plus i was into the whole jazz/fusion/funk thing when punk/new wave hit. but i did end up seeing a fair amount of punk shows due to having friends/family who were into it. from my place, the whole scene seemed to be pretty open, but anti-technical. it often seemed more sociological than musical a lot of the time.

I might skip The Stooges episodes as I already know a lot about their history. Just read a bunch of stuff on it last week. I'm a huge fan of both Funhouse and Raw Power

You had to play those punk tunes tight as efff.
The slackers where there but mostly as posters on the wall.
Even playing Ramones covers was serious shizzle cuz everyone knew the songs cold.
I doubt you'll miss anything critcial.
I wish current me could go back and tell younger me about The Damned episode. My favorite band I ever belonged to was hugely influenced by The Damned, but I didn't get them at all. I brought a much noisier and heavier set of influences to the table, though we still worked together pretty well. Now, I feel like I would've had an even better understanding of the songwriting.
you didn't see the bands i saw. there were plenty who could not play. and by anti-technical, i mean, ya know, anti prog and fusion.
Oh....for sure many bands sucked [email protected] local kids that opened shows.
But the "known" and respected ones had to be tight.
I never got the anti tech vibe in my town.
Quite the opposite. If you played punk and played bass with your fingers and not a pick......you just got yourself some major street cred.

i saw more than a few pretty famous bands in 79-83 that were terrible.

The first Germs record album is awesome IMO.....so ugly, raw and naive......
The playing is so bad I swear one time I'm going to listen to the album and they won't make it to the end.

I was totally thinking The Germs as being pretty awful. I doubt they would be famous if Darby Crash had not died.

TWhen I think of punk I like I think of skater punk that was sometimes called hardcore punk... but yeah required a bit of skill to play fast and tight. Early offspring, penny wise, Millencolin etc...

Vox remind me of Michael Graves. It’s quite the super group.
I just found this pedal existed, based on an Ampeg solid state head. It totally nails that guitar sound.

If you consider the bands I’m taking a out are 20 years after the sex pistols then I guess you can call it that if you like? I’m a 90’s boy...born in 1984. It’s always the teenage years that imprint your base of music Nostalgia yeah? Doesn’t mean I won’t listen to other stuff but it’s what I always seem to come back to *shrug*

ths discussion about the technical aspect of punk bands was me talking about the bands i saw around me when it was new 77-83, and how the movement was anti-technical and sloppy. talking about bands that are the third generation as better technically is what i see as being the difference.
maybe people were thinking i said punk sucks cause they can’t play, which is not what i thought i was doing.
