Ambient/Post-Rock/Textural bass playing thread

what i call a normal gig.

Haha!

Maybe this week. I’m now realizing I can downsize my road rig by using this interface to handle my audio and midi needs. I previously had. 2i2, so I couldn’t handle all the instrument-in lines.

The sound is much clearer and brighter than the Mackie mixer I was running through. For this performance I want a dark, almost muddy sound, so now I’m working on how to get that crisp, new vibrant sound to dull down a notch.

I’ve only got a few days before I hit the road. I’m hoping to find any bugs or glitches before I go.

You got this!
Look forward to hearing it

Anyone have a clever solution for taming a high gain amp for cleaner parts? I need just a tiny bit more clarity on ambient parts in the band I play guitar in. I was thinking of putting my El Cap and Bitquest in a TB loop inside of my effects loop with a simple EQ? I’m wondering if that will make up for the treble loss when using the unbuffered loop, as well as give a bit more distinction to washed out sections.

For reference I have a volume pedal on my board and the amp is a JCM 900 SLX which cleans up pretty well.

Wish I could help. Never tried that combo. Sorry :(

Hmmm. With a distortion pedal, maybe. With a distorted amp, not sure.

My first Eurorack case arrives tomorrow. Anyone else here take the leap? I’m still not sure what modules to get first.

I'm still on desktop stuff. I've been eyeing various rack units from MakeNoise. The Renee sequencer. The Maths. I really like the 0-Coast, so I'd consider one of their oscillators.

What's $4,500, really?
;)

Man, I’ve been a little more than interested for awhile now. Nearly ordered a powered skiff many times, but it’s an expensive rabbit hole.
I’ve spent the last 18 months chasing...something. A solo bass thing that could be original and hopefully cool. Started with a looper and pedals, then iPad apps, then more pedals. Then samplers. First the Elektron Digitakt then the Octatrack MK2, which has gotten me the closest to what’s in my head. Since then, two more (expensive) pedals are on their way and the looper and some old pedals are up for sale soon. It’s been quite the journey.
All that said, I can see serious potential in modular. I have an 0Coast and love it. Also messed around with VCV rack. I’d love a small skiff with a Make Noise Morphagene, for starters. Anything that can extend and modulate my bass jams, I’m all about :)

I don't want to hijack this thread and turn it into a synth forum, but I have been looking at various desktop synths around the $1K mark and was wondering if you (or anyone) had any recs? I've been primarily looking at Dreadbox (Abyss, Erebus, Medusa, Nyx - leaning towards Abyss), Novation Peak and DSI Prophet Rev2 desktop. Really want as close to one function per knob as possible with minimal or no menu diving, and something that can really be "played" and come up with some out-there stuff to complement the current bass and pedal setup if that makes sense. I love the sounds of all the Dreadbox's I've heard online (except for the Medusa so far) and am leaning towards the Abyss. Wasn't all that impressed with the Peak or the Rev2 in person. What would you do and why? Feel free to message me so as to not hijack the thread.

How is that hijacking?! Lots of folks here use synths. Seems on topic to me :)
I love the 0 Coast and some of those Roland ‘boutiques’ are pretty shocking for the dough. I hate to say this, but I’ve heard some pretty great results from the Behringer Neutron
