I admire people who can get what they need from one instrument. I always thought I would be that person...searched for a long time for the right bass....many customs made. I came to finally realize that no one instrument is perfect for me, that it's better to spend time with an instrument to learn what IT can do for you, and that I love different basses similarly to how I love different types of music....boy do I still want a headless that bridges my two main basses....hahaha.
Well, it all comes down to the "it's all in the hands" cliché. And "ears" I must add.
I had no choice really since I had no $$.
You adapt your technique, settings, strings etc to make it work. Either that or refuse gigs.....i think not.
But I was no where near getting studio gigs that required a pick up truck of instruments.
(I lack certain people skills required to suck up to the cliques and the popular kids in town......a curse and maybe a blessing....??)
But if you have 10 and use them all like paint brushes, all the better. I freakin dig lots of tones of different instruments.
I can take a pic of that bass if you want.
Nothing extraordinary, it's a first year G&L jb-2. It was all I played, always in my gig bag strapped to my back ready to go.

my one thing I’ve always wanted to know about this compared to what I’ve heard of other demo’s of similar stuff ( microbrute, monologues, bass station 2) - how’s the bass?
I mainly always wanted the freak for they lack of keys so to speak cos I suck at keyboard but never heard a good bass oriented demo..
Edit: Pity the bass station 2 is expensive in aud, the updated making it duophonic would make it pretty cool and a decent contender for that sort of style I’d think.

I feel like I've reached a milestone, where I can make music using only a bass + pedals that totally sounds like it was made with synths. A bit of justification for all these pedals I own lol.
Next milestone is to use this gear to make music that doesn't all sound the same.
I feel myself falling into that rut lately. The more I jam alone in my isolated room the more it starts to sound similar. Gotta break through that barrier.
The double edged sword of developing a voice is that you have a voice.
I'd like to think that I have a unique "voice", and I supposed there's some truth to it, but the fact is I have limitations, both in my musicianship and technical limitations imposed by the pedals I use. Some of these are easy to identify, such as the inability of some pedals to handle fast playing or polyphony, but my mentality as a player is also a problem. I fall back on comfortable patterns and need to get out of that comfort zone, but it's hard to figure out which discomfort zone to go to or where the door is.
I feel like my voice is the voice of a n00b.
Haven't dug in that much but I would be inclined to say that yes, I believe it can do some awesome bass.

Really dug this. It was reminiscent to thunder at but without all the flashiness.
I have been enjoying much of the music posted lately, but usually by the time I hear it we are 5 to 10 pages past it, so I don’t comment but keep them original pieces coming. A lot of them are really inspirational and help me think of solo music in ways that are different from my normal voice. @Spectrum I really love the way you mimic synths and your use of volume pedals is also really inspiring and idea generating...but I totally get you about your voice. I definitely sound like me no matter what which is a double edged sword.
I am a massive mattoverse fanboi. He makes some really cool drone synths that are very affordable. I have a handful of his stuff including the kick drum pedal, some of the drone synths, and his air trash. I really love the Drone Tone mkII, it is one of the most fun pedals for guitar since it gives you a drone that you can jam w w tap tempo. If only there was a way to toggle back via foot switches to drone once you get a pulse going.
Aesthetically, I adore his new wood faced pedals. They look so great...same pedal as regular enclosure, but them wood ones give me GAS.

Hell, if you hadn't quoted @steubig 's "Watery" tune I would've missed it entirely! It's good to have someone playing defensive free safety, catching anything that may have gotten past the rest of us
That's a great milestone, I remember when I reached that point... I was listening back to some random mixes, and had to really concentrate to figure out if bass or synth. Yeah, that's worth the 3+ grand I've put into the board.
