Ambient/Post-Rock/Textural bass playing thread

For anyone using the sy1 - how do you use it? I’ve only been playing with it through headphones and set it up with all my drives in the loop... thought sounded decent using some of the lead tones. ( main thing to do was intro under my guitarists finger picked chords with just ambient sweeps) and when it came to band practice through my cab, it sounded horrible :( maybe it’s too dry with just the sy1 and loop drives?? When I listen to electronic music I realise I usually like the aggressive overdriven distorted stuff, maybe I should be running sy1 into drives instead?
Seemed like a waste of real estate when sy1 with expression pedal and drive in loop was being beat by drive plus bass clone plus wah to get filter sweeps :(

maybe some retweaking/rethinking the sound might be helpful?

(or rethinking uses of the pedal)

Thanks for the thoughts on the sy1 - it does sound amazing and so many uses for it, I guess may be more of a studio / home tool in that respect in that harder to dial in live for 30 seconds with the band.
That said - mxr bass distortion into bass clone into the Dunlop mini wah does some wonderful ambient synth type sweeps! I’m actually rather impressed with the bass clone once dialled in, definitely not as subtle as the boss ceb3 could be.

I say use whatever works.
Regardless of what it is.

My 2 cents.

I wonder if bass synth effects lack dynamics and behave as if highly compressed. Perhaps that could be part of the reason this box is being tricky in a live setting.

I think (and have heard this before with synth stuff) that a raw synth sound can sound too dry... hence thinking of taking the drives out of if the loop and putting after - thinking back to stuff I like on demos I’ve heard of bs2 and other hardware it always seems to make the difference when the drive is up.
But yes I guess it could be that the depth and filter parameters on the sy1 could come into play as well, I found with them all the way up it was so harsh as to be Almost unusable. Might just need to get to next practice early and set them better.

Anyone using a Keystep Pro? I've been looking at a Keystep so I can play my synths without plugging in my laptop to use a usb midi controller. Of course, I had to see what the Pro offered and it sure seems like a huge step up. But at that point I wonder about getting a sequencer unit (Erica Black is on my radar). The pro is a bit bigger than I want, but the features seem worth the extra space.

i have a keystep (not pro), but haven’t used it much because i decided to go a different direction (linnstrument).

I have a Keystep Pro. It’s...ok. CV out is kinda cool. Works ok for basic sequencing and the occasional happy accident :)
