I have a Keystep Pro. It’s...ok. CV out is kinda cool. Works ok for basic sequencing and the occasional happy accident

If you had it to do over again would a standard key step be enough?

my main inclination is that I’ve got two oscillators and an 0 Coast so the pro could be used to independently sequence. Also, the pro has clock functions that might not be on the standard key step

I have a regular Keystep. The Pro is probably too much for my needs; The KS fits my setup better physically and the sequencer/arpeggiator is cool. I have use the CV out on it as well as MIDI out depending on my setup at the moment. I also have used the clock input to it from an external clock. The keys are velocity sensitive.

My biggest problem is syncing everything up. Some of my stuff works better with MIDI clock while others want to see plain old analog clock, and the various sequencers behave differently unless I go through the routine of making sure everything is configured correctly.

I have the regular Keystep as well. I guess I should say the Pro would work pretty well for what you’re describing, but it feels a bit unfinished to me. Certainly usable, but unfinished. Check tons of reviews to make sure it’s the right thing for you. Or just get an Octatrack and a midi/cv converter

I already have a MIDI/CV conversion module

...thinking about it more, what I really want is the ability to plug in my euro synth and play it with a keyboard without connecting my computer. I don’t mind sequencing via my laptop. Maybe the key step is the right tool for the job. I might even be able to power it from my Cioks DC7.

ah. I’m looking for something that can go CV out.

I was also looking for a foot pedal CV controller and then I realized I could probably build what I want with Zoia. I just need the right TRS to TS cable.

yeah. pretty sure it does that. started thinking of keeping when i thought of the make noise desktop semi-modular stuff.

And now the circle is complete. I’m realizing that I have keyboard and sequencing options with my Novation Circuit and Polyend Medusa. I suppose what I’m after is the small form factor, so maybe Arturia. Maybe Keith M.

Small keyboard? I have the Alesis 25 mini or whatever it’s called. Or did you need more options than that?

I have a similar one but it doesn’t send CV, which is key. Without a CV board, I can still use MIDI, but I’d need a MIDI hub to run a USB keyboard like the Alesis into the euro rack, which has a 5 pin midi in.

It’s two layers. The “can’t get what you want” from the Sones is what I though of when you said “...what you need.” I can’t think of that line without thinking of that scene.

I’ve never seen it but I know its a cult favorite.
Before I had kids I « WAS » a movie freak, watched about 1 movie a day for years.
From the good to the soooo bad it’s awesome kind.

Oh man. That film is so good. The music is amazing. I covered a track from it with my non ambient project (I linked to it a few days/pages back). There are so many good rock songs in the film. Now I need to watch it.

In the spirit of using gear I already own (I hope I don’t get kicked off TB for that) I tried playing the Erica via midi using my Polyend Medusa. It’s pretty nice. It seems wasteful to have all the oscillators of the Medusa not being used, but the grid keyboard and sequencing works quite well. Maybe I don’t need a key step.

I’ve been spending most of my time on my SP.
(But still keeping my hands warm on the bass as usual, its second nature after so many years)
Not playing bass, exactly in the spirit of TB.
